    Default Broken motherboard?

So I was surfing the web when suddenly my mouse and keyboard stopped working. They're both USB connected. The keyboard won't even work in bios! I could reboot and get into windows before, and the keyboard and mouse wouldn't work. But now I just get a big juicy Bluescreen of death instead when trying to boot windows.

All I can think of is that it has something to do with my motherboard and I need to replace it. Or is it something else?

EDIT: Found something on google about a how a dead battery situated on the motherboard can cause these types of problems
    http://www.smartcomputing.com/Editor...2w10/32w10.asp
    Could that be my problem?

I made a lot of music for RS II, and that is very awesome because RS II is a very awesome mod!

When your computer is running I don't think a dead battery could have any effect on it (when your keyboard and mouse stopped responding).

Let's see if anyone else has any ideas here... I can't think of anything at the moment, this is the kind of problem that is difficult to guess correctly on over the internet, needs someone to take a look at it and troubleshoot a bit more than likely.

Gut reaction. Take out the battery. let it sit for a while. Put it back in and try to start it.

In the old days, Blue Screen and boot up problems would mean BIOS.

Thanks for the replies! Though I just solved it on my own!

I disconnected all USB devices except for the keyboard, and then the keyboard would suddenly work! I could then boot windows normally instead of going into the repair and get a BSOD. When in windows I connected my USB stuff one by one, and when I plugged in my mouse, went crazy.

So my mouse was the problem! Wtf really. Somehow it knocks out the rest of the USB devices when connected. I'm using another one right now and it works great.

I don't see any logic behind the mouse causing input lockups and BSOD's myself

Tbh, I can't either unless it's an IRQ/DMA issue. I remember too many times in DOS trying to get my mouse and Sound Blaster card to work at the same time because they shared the same ones.

It's a crappy mouse, so I'm glad that it wasn't something else

I'd guess a short in your mouse causing electrical feedback into the USB port, which consequently disabled the entire USB controller. USB controllers typically have 2 or 4 USB ports attached to them, so if one is causing problems most likely all ports on the controller will exhibit problems.

This scenario would cause BSOD's how again?

Your problem is your keyboard wouldn't work in the USB port if the, broken, mouse was was also plugged into a USB port. I explained how that is possible.

Keyboard not working doesn't equal BSOD. You only explained how it is possible for the mouse problem to cause the USB port not to work for the keyboard either.

The battery issue you already mentioned or any short on a motherboard can have all sorts of consequences.
