Default A sultan would never use a Hashashim!

The use of Hashashim in total war is incredibly unrealistic, yes I do like fantasy units but the Hashashim ACTUALLY EXISTED so you can't use the "Fantasy Unit" excuse. The Hashashim were from a rogue sect of Islam that would assassinate christians and muslims alike to further their own cause, However if there is a way to make them a faction, through modding.

Infact Crusader lords actually fought with them more than Muslim lords, they fought to further their own interests NOT that of the Sultan.

Dude if it were a "Sherwood Archer" type fantasy unit I'd be fine with it, but if they incorrectly use a unit that could have made for a rather interesting faction or could have spawned as PARTICULARLY troublesome rebels.... then I get pissed.

well fair enough... but dont get too pissed, aint gonna help much

I was thinking more along the lines of the teutonic order in the teutonic campaign

That would be kinda interesting- a secretive society of assassins who live in a mountain fortress called the Eagle's Nest. They could get a new religion- Ismaili Islam. However, they'd be pretty lacking in unit variety.

Weren´t the Hashashims a sect which basically dedicated itself to stealth practice and martial prowess, and hired out its´ service as assassins to anyone who would pay?
You know, besides murdering people they themselves didn´t like.
And the Hashashims in the game are basically members of this sect which have been hired for military purposes, which explains their standardized equipment and numbers. While historically inaccurate, it seems logical nonetheless.
That´s the image I have of them, anyway.

I recall a book in which there is a mention (and short appearance) of a mountanous assasins´ cult, where the "members" among other things sharpened their nails and strengthened them with oils and ointments to enable them to climb stone walls.
And anyway, the Hashashims are a superb unit, the greatest of all Muslim units (except maybe the Camel Gunners) so I don´t mind the inaccuracy.

The Hashshashin weren't mercenaries, but assassins. They wouldn't have fought as heavy infantry with fantasy swords.

Which is exactly the part that would be fantasy and historically inaccurate.
But it would still have been a logical decision to hire a big bunch of them and have them run around on the battlefields. Sure, it never actually happened, but it would have worked.
Also, how else would you implement them into the game?
By giving all muslim factions super assasins? So that as soon as you have a hashashims´ guild house, your assassins gain the trait "hashashim" and +5 subterfuge right off the bat?

I think the military unit was a way more kickass way to tribute them
