Poor little Carthage, my favorite faction of any of the TW series, is always quickly and humiliatingly deystroyed in vanilla RTW when Im not playing as it. Anyone ever had carthage actually live? Any mods that up Carhtages chacnes of survival?

In my campaign, Numidia managed to cripple them :/
well thats just sad lol, I've seen that happen before as well![]()
In my personal mod I get them to survive a long time if they manage to ally with the Seleucids. If not, they don't make it past 225 BC at most. Then again, I've made it so the Seleucids regularly come out on top (since the Egyptians have no more battle buggies and Sidon)
I was once an Angel of Total War Heaven, but gave up my wings for a life on the sea of battle.
In most big mods carthage doesn't get stuck with utter crap early units so it does survive longer, I have only ever seen them live in vanilla when they took out numidia early and then scipii didn't invade for some reason. They got kicked out of spain though and I think they lost both islands, but they never died...
odi et amo quare id faciam fortasse requiris / nescio sed fieri sentio et excrucior
I think Carthage usually does well in XC (if it doesn't get rushed by rome early.)
Insatiable as the flame, I burn, and consume myself.
I'm playing as Carthage right now and it doesn't surprise me that they get destroyed first almost every game. Their infantry and missile units are just utter crap, lol. I haven't gotten to the phalanx units yet, though. Not to mention their positioning at the start is just awkward, with too many settlements to run on your income, and too spread out.
Right now my fighting strategy is 1 or 2 units of elephants + a bunch of cavalry and 1 or 2 units of infantry for sieges and sapping. It's actually working out really well, too bad elephants cost so much to train and upkeep :/. I also allowed the settlement in Spain revolt, and brought those units in to defend the islands. I'm only a few dozen turns in, but I've pushed hard into Roman territory and destroyed Scipii and the SPQR already, with the Julii and Numidia coming up next.
Never had that problem. But you can go to DATA/WORLD/MAPS/CAMPAIGN/IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN/DESCR_STRAT.txt
Search for Carthage till you find this:
Add this in and the ai won´t have a problem. But if you play as Carthage, you should change it back, or it would be extremely easy.Code:faction carthage, balanced smith denari 70000 settlement
Oh primo you dirty cheat you. As for dude, 1 unit of elephants against early roman military will win you basically every battle lol, that and longsheild calvary charging the roman line where it was hit by elephants. Libyian spearmen are actually a decent unit, good for defense, and balearic slingers are just wow lol. And their phalanz troops are on par with your usual greek counterparts, therefor pretty darn capable against the romans. I myself have simply kicked the scippi off of scicily (it was actually a long and brutal campagin lol) and have simply locked down rome with my navy (this has screwed the brutti who's greek colonies are now cut off and bein gowned by my macedonian ally). Meanwhile I've turned my attetion to conquring spain and gonna use that extra income to take out the numidians lol
the problem is AI factions autoresolve. light infantry don't do well in autoresolve. there is a mod that gives Carthage bit of a helping hand without changing too much

giving AI more money never solves anything in tw games. most hard mods have to spawn garrisons unit stacks etc give hiden bonuses.
Just to let you know, I'm entirely with you on this one. But, I simply can't resist.

We want it to be stronger, but not to dominate all other AI factions.
How high should we increase it?
1-2 points. 15 are allowed, but then this unit could possibly conquer the world without losses. The number assigns secondary hitpoints; these just count in auto calculation. It is, however, just really usable if you want to make a faction stronger in auto calc or making a unit class weaker - like Cavalry.
Generally, playing as Macedons, Scipii prefers focusing on me rather than Carthage, therefore they are quite safe until later on I decide to take them down, although Spain takes Corduba half of the time. Numidia is very often too weak to do any damage.
