Ultima Thule - 700AD

This mod is very much in the early stages of development but I thought some may be interested in what I am working on.

Ultima Thule is a total conversion modification based in northern Europe circa 700AD. At the moment I will only preview the map stage of which I am 90% complete. Here are some examples:

Nice mate! That is a very interesting map choice
But I will certainly play it! What will your factions be?
I would recommend adding the Saxon tribes (they are split into 4 parts but you don't have to use 4). They are the Engern, Westphalians, Eastphalians, and Transalbingians. I would say the Engern because they were the most central tribe. Also obviously the Norse kingdoms (Norway, Sweden, Denmark), and also the baltic tribes since they don't get involved in many mods.

I have some ideas about factions and not quite at that stage yet but would probably like a little advice about the Norse Kingdoms? they will play a major role in this mod.

I would love to help you mate! The interesting thing about this time frame is that none of the Norse kingdoms were united or centralized. They were very much decentralized Chiefdoms (also known as petty kingdoms) all fighting for power. You'll have to pick and choose which legendary king you wish to use (as we don't particularly know who was king when). It would be interesting to have Ragnar Loðbrok and his sons as emerging characters later on in the game

As you say, early in the campaign the Norse factions including non-playablefactions will battle each other for supremacy. Later the remaining Norse factions will consolidate, explore, raid and colonise new lands. I would also like to have an emergent non-playable Rus faction around Novgorod area, this is why the map extends so far east. The map also extends to Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland to create a sandbox environment in which to explore. Exploration will reward characters with ancillaries that will have benefit to the whole faction, I would like to implement a Saga ancillary system this way.

there is quite a lot of ocean compared to land mass, there is not much action on M2TW oceans you know. and i wonder how that will influence pathfinding...
Newfoundland(or is it Greenland) Iceland and certainly Svalbard is really a waste of space in my opinion, nothing much in terms of warfare going on there. i think you should consider cutting those parts out.
