Reading Bran's chapters in the book did have a use. Do you recall the the Greenseer saying his name was Brynden? At first I was thinking the Blackfish got that far up North, but then the startling conclusion came to me that that had to be:

Hm, I think that one would still be too "young" for some of the stories the Greenseer tells.
Doesn't the book state that he's "some Stark" from ages past?

Keep in mind that Noble Houses aren't very creative when it comes to names

The stories could have been told to him, but it never said he was a Stark. I believe it is Bloodraven.

Oh yeah, Its definitely Bloodraven, all the evidence points towards it. And If he mentions something that happened before his time he probably just saw it through his magical tree eyes power

What shocks me though is how much kinder he got north of the Wall when everyone south of it stills fears him.

That is my hope as well, but you all know George... besides it is not Benjen, because in ASOS when they are beneath the wall, it says that only a sworn brother of the Nights Watch can pass through that Gate. So... Benjen could not be Coldhands then. Thats why Sam was needed.

Or he is a sworn brother of the Nights Watch, but he cannot pass because he is a wight. Something about the Wall being infused with magic against the Others. But then again, how come the wights in AGOT that attacked the Old Bear did pass through it, hmm?

I am sorry, but there is that strong proof of the gate-passing that Benjen is not Coldhands

Well, the wights could only pass the "standard" gate. Coldhands was talking about the weirwood door, which is, in Laymans terms, stronger mojo.
I also wouldn't rule out Benjen because of the "Sworn brother"-part. IIRC, the oath of the nightwatch ends with death. This metaphorical phrase, meaning nothing more than "u no go away from the wall anytime soon" might have some entire new meaning for a wight

there's a few points where GRRM is at pains to point out that they haven't seen his face, as he is hooded and covers his face with a scarf, so that covers the Bran angle..

Its Brynden Rivers, aka Lord Bloodraven. He is described as having red eyes and is also stated to have one eye. There is also, as has been previously stated on this thread, the song about him called "A Thousand Eyes and One" The Greenseer specifically stated that he has been watching with " A Thousand Eyes and One".
