Default Question about dual-core and RTW stuff.

    Hi,
I have an athlon 64 X2 3800+ cpu and, when i look in the tesk manager history i see that both cores were used. I know that RTW doesn't support DC cpu's so how could this happen? Am i supposed to see both core up to 100% usage if the game supports it?
I installed the XP hotfix for dual core, as well as the AMD X2 drivers. I'm currently using SPQR 6.0 and on my way to 6.1, but sometimes i get random crashes "an errror has accored..."

so do you guys think it's because of DC? any workaround?

    anyway, something else:
It's kind of annoying to hear the pre-battle track in the campaign map. If i change the music file and delete the pre-battle music, will i still hear the campaign music, or it just going to mute? and if so, is there any other way?

    Thanks in advance!

I would like to know as well if there are any pitfalls in going with AMD Dual Core with regards to RTW and SPQR mod. Would not want to build a powerful system that can't handle this well loved game.

And why is that..dabaz? I mean, this is a serious and good question. Just be a bit more patient. NOt all gamers have Dual core systems those days you know?

Dual-Cores are definetly the way of the future. Many games are releasing patches for Dual-core Processors, and when they do, the performance increase is dramatically better. RTW still does not have an X2 patched availible, and as such, it is not being brought to its full potential.

Their are not really any pitfalls. Example:

He has a 2.0 ghz Dual Core

Just One core from that is better than my Pentium 4 Northwood (1.69 ghz) and I still run RTW at Medium to High settings for most of my stuff. I would definetly reccomend dual core. Although Single cores are technically faster, they only have one core, and do not multitask as well. They are better OC'ers though.

any game which is optimized or has a patch for the new X2 technology will be immensly superior to Single core.

    Hey, Thanks for the reply.

This is a game I'll probably comeback to every now and then even after MTW2 comes out.

This random CTD u have in SPQR is not DC related... I also have random CTDs mainly after marius reforms with my single processor P4 - 2.6 (Northwood)... SPQR uses lots of textures and units and the battles handle more than 7k soldier models at any one time... I have found that using page defrag on your page file and optimising your system resources as well has playing at 1024x765 resolutions helps a lot but does NOT erradicate CTDs in SPQR... I trust that if I upgrade my hardware to dual core + good VC and 2GB memory will eventually erradicate it but it looks like you are having the same problem with this upgrade what's your VC and memory like???

I have LEADTEK 7800GT, and 2*1024MB ddr 3200 sticks. i installed 6.1 over my 6.0 SPQR and so far i didn't have any CDTs, but now i experience another odd problem: whenever i load something in the game(battle-map, or strategy map) the loading bar stands idle for 15+- seconds(while i see no activity on my comp), then suddenly everything is loaded within a second.
well, i need to check this. defrag, uninstalling norton and a new RTW installation might work.
as for the usage of daul-core in RTW i still have no idea, and i'm pretty sure CA won't release a patch for this issue, because from what i understand it's hard to rewrite a game to take advantage from dual core cpu's, and offcourse CA some other project to work on...(MTW:2)

It's good to hear that you have no CTDs with your spec I'm planning to upgrade my PC towards the MTW2 release date but IF I can get rid of these SPQR CTDs now it might be a good reason to get similar spec to yours soon rather than later
