    Default Slavery or extinction?

Which is best to do?Just kill them all and get the cash and start again in the town,or just Loot or Enslave the population?I know enslavement will send people to other settlements in the region but will they sow the seeds of discontent or not?i have tried a campaign of total extermination when taking settlements but i think there are a few drawbacks.Slow rebuilding of population being one.

Also,if you just loot a settlement,is the poulation more likely to rebel or not?

First time I played I used to always kill them off but now I usually enslave them as it makes your other towns have more people in it and more chance of expanding.

Extermination for cities with 20,000+, Enslavement for 8,000-20,000. That's what I do, and I find it usually works out for the best, especially when I need people in my smaller cities.

i realy don't like to enslave because I alway have a popution trobles in the large city so i give them leaders to rasie happyness, so if i enslaved a lot of citys in the late game i have huge unrest in a lot of my important citys.

Enslave or Occupy the "civilised" cities, burn rape and pillage the barbarians.

I always exterminate cities, because it means that the population are (usually) happy and the city makes a profit

    Hi.

    Depends on the situation.

Early in the campaign and none of my high tax cities has population pressure. So enslavement of newly captured medium/large cities is common. This transfers population to my cities with governors. It does not sow any unrest..well no more than any other form of population growth does.

Small towns captured will often be occupied. I enslave some so that the slave resource appears on the map for additional trade income.

If I am going to give up a town soon after capture then extermination is used to deny enemy a resource. Only done this once though.

Also depends on the cash needs. As cash rich Brutii I dont need to exterminate for the money.

Really depends. If the town you conquer shows a green or yellow face, slave the population. If they show blue or red face, kill the population.

Agreed, in principle, with Severous and (I think) hellheaven1987: It depends.

If the settlement is about 8K or more and not of my culture, I exterminate. (I am a little more lax on that in the early game.) I enslave if the population is between 2K and 8K. If it is an itsy-bitsy town or if I am recapturing a very recently lost settlement, then I will simply occupy.

it depends on your playing style and on the position u are in in the current campaign. If u need money, exterminate, if u have a good eco and need some cities that are prosperous and can create more troops, enslave.

One more thing, it also depends how fast you want to conquer a faction. If you want as soon as possible, slave would be better choice as you can have enough population to retrain your units.

I discovered that the closer you are to your capital/original starting possition, the happier the cities you conquer will be. For example, with the Brutii, all of Greece I occupied because they were close to my capitol. However, when I started to move outward and into Dacia, The settlements started to become increasingly unhappy when occupied. I resorted to enslavement, and it worked perfectly.

yeah, to fix that just move your capital to a much more central place , so because you have all of the Greek land I’d go with Athens or the Macedonian capitol ( I think is Pella not sure about that) that should drop the unrest punishments allot in your other far away provinces.

Just wait until you get a REALLY BIG Empire, like I did. All but two settlements on the map were mine :sign_lol: , and only one was unhappy because of the capitol. This was on a medium campaign too.
