Can the Papal States be wiped out if there are no catholic States besides yourself.

Its 1520 and I have 104 terrorities and there are no catholic states left, and I have just taken rome and therefore The papal states does not have a home or anywhere to relocate to. Therefore my question is, can he be wiped out.

In the manual it says 'the papal states cannot be wiped out, ever' but there are no catholic states left to ofter them a home and there are no free cities as they are all occupied by me, the rebels, moors or the mongols. Will the papal states just have an army which wanders the map searching for a home?

Also if you were a Muslim state and conquered every catholic state and when took Rome and destroyed the papal states would you wipe them out?

I am going for a world dominationand only have a few cities left to take and thought it would be funny to conquer the papal states.

I believe a bishop will be promoted to pope and he will just wander around with his bodygaurd, spawning either next to rome or northern italy iirc. I am also fairly certain as long as you have preists they will get turned into bishops, and then into the pope. You may be able to destroy them by getting rid of every single preist (your distant lands may revolt due to religous unrest, but eh) and killing the pope, but a random pope will probably spawn instead of a bishop.

edit: whoops everytime I say bishop I mean cardinal, too much time with orthodox factions I guess.

Nope.

Papal states cannot be destroyed ever.

YOu can't destroy the papal states, in my polish campaign, I acheived world domination and the pope just embarked on a boat and he is on foot wandering around marrakesh. I even tried not training any priests so there would ve no cardinals, a random pope will appaer for example there was this one called Pope Frodrigus of the papal states.

If there are no Catholic priests on the map, there will be no pope.

However, even if there is no pope, that doesn't mean the papal states are gone. Even if the papal states have no pope, no provinces, no military units, and no agents, the faction will still exist on the list.

Funny that in my Russia campaign, the last pope made his last stand at around Marrakesh. In fact, he even routed two units of Cavalry Militia sent against him. But a third cavalry militia got him.

just conquered every city and castle on the map including the americas. is there a sequence like when you complete your objective- or i am left to wander the world alone with the pope lol

When you take every province, you get a victory message saying you're the greatest conqueror ever, and make the legacy of Charlemagne and Caesar look petty -- something like that.
