Icon8 New to 6.4, low authority king.

I recently shifted to SS6.4 after having played 6.1 for half a year, and while I see 6.4 as a another huge leap forward, it certainly has made things a lot harder. I used to play h/vh in 6.1 and now I find myself switching back to n/h, and I STILL encounter seemingly insurmountable difficulties.

In my current campaign as Novgorod I'm having my best luck yet securing a stable economy and keeping peace with the Cumans and Byzantines while taking out the weaker factions one by one. So far everything's been running smoothly and on my 70th turn I've wiped out Lithuania, Kiev and Denmark will soon bow to my will.

However, I have run into a really annoying problem: My second faction leader, who had accumulated an authority rating of 10, has died at the respectable age of 89 (love the new possibilities for longevity BTW) and has left the throne to his enept nephew who is a completely useless brat with next to no positive traits and a pitiful authority rating of 2, worse than that he's only 38 years old and not likely to die anytime soon! The result is, that my field generals are starting to rebel all over the place, even when they have loyalty ratings of 7+ taking precious full-stack armies with them.

Any ideas on how to solve this issue? I could ofc. just have the bastard attack a supperior force and get himself killed, but this seems a bit like cheating and his heir isn't much better anyway, having inherited most of his fathers negative traits. It seems that one of the changes in 6.4 is the inability to control the lineage of faction leaders and heirs, which I guess makes sense, but how do I solve the problem of an inept ruler tearing apart my kingdom?

Any help would be much appreciated.

choose your own faction heir with this submod:

    works for 6.4!

EDIT: you still won't be able to chose your heir, just the next in line to become heir

Let him become a dreaded leader by using assassins. Authority is another bonus that comes with it. And it suits such a brat instead of chivalry. Fight the important battles with him and let a spy join each of your other armies.
Never lost an army with a spy, but you can lose an army with a priest (he becomes a heretic).

didn't even know that spies prevented armies from rebelling I've been playing M2TW for years and somehow this has slipped past my attention. Thx for the advice, it might not prevent my immediate troubles - 2 armies are gonna rebel no matter what - but the spy trick is good to know.

When kings are weak they lose their thrones or their heads, why is that cheating?

I find using diplomats to get decent deals throws authority way up, also conquering certain regions should get you a particular "King" title that'll add another 3 to authority

I play n/h, so I guess that it's limited to supplies and recruitment?

You can run the SS6.4 setup (in the MTW2 folder\mods\SS6.3) and select the features you want to play with. You can play with multiple BGR versions (or without), with RR turned on or off, with permanent watchtowers and/or arrows, different AI settings etc. Changing one of these features can have a quite dramatic impact on actual gameplay. If you're using BGR you want to check army morale regularly. The longer your generals stay in the field, the lower both troop morale and the loyalty of the general will become which increases the chance of rebelion.I noticed with BGR4 most new faction leaders start with very low authority. Basically I stop moving around reinforcements and the like when my faction leader dies (for a couple turns). Usually, things settle down a few turns later and you can go back to business, but the times shortly after faction leaders die are chaotic (as they should be). Check their authority ratings 5 turns later and it should be much better. Of course you can always end up with a total moron regardless. I usually send them on a Crusade/Jihad to gain glory in distant lands, or die trying

I just send by King/Emperor around fighting battles, after a while I seem to be able to get the authority up, but I'm not sure if there is a relationship

Im using BGR 2 H/H atm. My kings Authority keeps dropping making my armies go rebel. He started with full, now his at half. How can i prevent this and make it grow instead?

Hows your Kings personal finances doing? I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that if he spends most of his time bankrupt then that will cause him to lose authority.

If your weak King goes out for a stroll and "accidently" runs into a superior enemy force and dies, how is that cheating?

There's plenty of historical precedence for weak rulers finding their way to an early grave.

You can identify the factors determining your king's authority by looking through his traits and ancillaries. Hover the cursor over a certain trait/ancillary and a text box will appear, explaining the bonus or detriment it gives. Your gameplay will influence which traits/ancillaries your generals collect. For example, battle experience and success will grant traits/ancillaries which grant authority bonuses, but if the general flees from the battlefield, that may gain him the trait "coward" or some such which lowers authority. I suggest you just play along and watch carefully which traits/ancillaries change after a battle or a turn and how certain other things change with them. There are also a lot of guides on the forums explaining how to raise authority I should think. Do some searches.
