    Default Ccleaner question

OK, so three months after I got my computer it's starting to slow down, particularly after start up. I've deleted various unneccasary files and run a full virus scan, which has helped a little, so now I'm moving onto the registry.

I know absolutely nothing about registry files, so I'm asking a simple question. Is it safe to just let Ccleaner do it's thing with the registry? Is there any chance of it deleting something the operating system needs to run?

It is never safe to let anything at your registry, I'm aware of how paranoid that is but if you're really encountering extensive loading problems then try everything else before going after your registry.

As long as you've treated your computer with respect, the registry should be fine.

Tried pretty much everything else, what do you mean by 'treating my computer with respect'? since I last re-installed windows I've mostly downloaded music, played TW games and watched...you know what

Should there be anything to worry about?

I wasn't suggesting that you weren't treating it with respect, some people however complain their computer is slow after they've downloaded nine different browsers with dozens of search bars, different "games" and screen-savers etc.

Have you tried cutting out unnecessary services?

I've only got firefox and internet explorer, don't use any toolbars and and I use a desktop image and screensaver that were on the computer when I got it. It's not as fast as when I got it, but it's satisfactory now. I've heard many people say they've used Ccleaner every day for years and never had problems, wondering if it's completely safe should I decide to use it.

I think I've been told what I need to know, thanks for everything. I repped your first post.

I use CCleaner with Windows 7 and Vista, and I haven't had any trouble. I use it regularly, both by cleaning up files and dealing with the registry. It lets you make a backup of your registry, or something like that, so its good enough for me.

I'm sure you've already done this, but I'll mention it anyway. Defrag your drives, and then go onto the scanners.

Might as well post this here. I also use CCleaner. I have used it for quite a while and I really like it.

I do frequrently use the Clean Registry feature and it always asks me if I would like to backup the changes to the registry. Should I choose yes or no? I have always been confused on what to do here so I just choose 'No.'

I always back it up even though I have never had any problems. All it does is saves a text file of the old registry.

The registry cleaner in CC does very shallow scans. There is really very little danger in using it.

I also support the use of ccleaner. I also never had any problems with ccleaner. I always choose to do backups of the registries but I never really had to use those backups.
