To update the guides? - Using Gig's awesome work i've managed to get 1.4.4 working well (no I can't provide advice - read the Bug/Technical section! I just lowered AA and Anisotropic - shadows are always off).

I've played over 70 turns with Dwarves and Nordland and about 50+ with Averland.

How close is 1.5 though? And considering the conversion problems from Russian to English maybe the guides will have quite a "life" before a stable "new" version comes along?

(No disrespect to our Russian colleagues doing the work - but lets face it the translation has been a pain to get to work stable)

So.. is it worth folks - updating the guides to 1.4.4 (well at least the ones I wrote anyway)?

The translation isn't really that hard to fix. You just have to make sure to have all the entries (the stuff in between the parenthesis) in your language files. Notepad++ with the compare add-on was my friend there. Time consuming of course afterward to do the actual translation. The main reason why my language installer still has stuff in Russian in some places.
