Default Worth Upgrading From Single-Core to Dual-Core?

I recently got this great computer form a pawn shop, has a nice graphics card, RAM, and a good amount of Hard drive space. There is one thing about that brings down, though, and that is the processor. It's an AMD 2.8 GHz processor, which isn't really good for any type of gaming. The CPU socket is the AM2 socket, which only supports up to Duel core, if I did my research right. I haven't looked at the power supply yet, but I'm pretty sure it could handle the upgrade to Duel Core. I will check before I do it, though.

So, my main question is, would the upgrade be worth it? I just want to make sure before I ever do this because I don't want to spend 80-120$ on something that may only give me 5 extra FPS.

Find out what processors specifically your motherboard will allow you to upgrade to. Then use google to find info on comparing your existing processor with your intended upgrade model.
There are sites out there that test pretty much every processor that sees the light of day (and some that don't )

Power supply shouldn't be an issue but the CPU fan WILL. Make sure your current CPU fan is adequate for the intended upgrade. If it isn't or won't fit, then DO invest in a good one. It would be a shame to melt your new purchase!!!!!!

    Good luck and happy gaming!!!!

Dual Cores are also better programmed for games these days.

Upgrading to a dual core processor would have extra benefits just make sure you pick a decent one.
