Default A question about Dolby headphone.

My new PC came with a ASUS Xonar DG soundcard. As this card has a build in headphone amp and dolby headphone support I decided to get a decent pair of cans for gaming (Creative Fatal1ty HS-800).

In the Xonar control panel I have 6 channels and DH1 enabled. My question is that in games such as L4D do I set the game's audio settings to 5.1 speakers or headphone settings in order to take full advantage of Dolby headphone?

It really depends on the game as to whether the channel setting would default back to the settings in Xonar when using the headphone setting in game. Most times it will just give you stereo (2-channel). So it is a safe bet to use 5.1, and I have no idea about DH1. Im guessing that is software generated spatialization like Sound Blaster CMSS-3D, in which case I wouldn't use that at all.
Certainly not when listening to music.

But keep in mind that things like DH1 would still play a part in no matter what you choose in game.

I typically use 5.1 with my non-dolby HPs and it sounds great. But it can be different for other games like Battlefied BC2 where the headphones setting seems to sound better.

Set it to headphones and there should be an option to enable Dolby surround for headphones. This is in the asus control panel. After set game to 5.1 surround I believe
