Upgrade from Dual-Core to Quad-Core ?

Hey everyone,

I want to upgrade my G71GX -RX05 from a dual core (Intel Core 2 P8700 (2.53GHz) ) to an i7 Quad Core. And if its possible I wonder if the laptop could handle the heat? Cause with my dual core I regularly reach 80 degree C when gaming. Thanks in advance for your answer!

No it is not possible

i7 quad core is a different socket then the P8700

not to mention the battery or Power brick most likely couldnt supply proper juice even if it did support it.

Basically put if youy want to upgrade the laptops cpu you have to stick to the same lineup even then your limited since some OEM machines will artificially limit the cpus supported, HP for example will sometimes limit cpu support to as little as 3 cpus on there Compaq models rare but it does happen, If you want to upgrade parts to extend life span desktops are what you build,

for laptops 99% of the time your limited to HDD, RAM, and on occasion a slight speed bump of the CPU aka P8700 upgraded to a P8800 its a dual core still and its only 2.66 vs the 2.53 your currently running oh yea cost of a P8800 is still $200+

there is the Q9000 series but ive no idea if your laptops motherboard would support it as there are 2 different sockets for the Core 2 Duo mobile chips and only 1 socket for the Core 2 Quad chips

The Q9000 and Q9100 are $300 cpus even then there performance is lacking compared to a $100 desktop cpu,

Basically long story short, no you cant upgrade to an i7
no there is no cost effective upgrade
and for the future if upgrading to go the distance, desktops are pretty much end all be all for full on upgrading aka CPU and GPU.

And just to add laptop hardware is more rare than desktop hardware that's why the prices are considerably higher than the desktop parts.

I would just buy the highest dual core possible for your laptop within your price range depends how bad you need it and you might want to consider buying another laptop if you want better performance.

Being mobile is the key for me not sure what yourself.
