Its quite possible it will go the whole way. Thats the plan anyway. I read an Interview with GRRM where he was asked if he was worried if the series could pass him out before he finished all the books. Also The 2 writers hvae been tld the rough outline of the last two books just in case GRRM gets hit by a bus.

it 'll be really lame though if we get to see the "end" just through a tv series...i don't think he'll finish the story in the books , in the next 10 years ...and he's already 60... : /

Yeah. That would be horrible...to imagine that the TV Show finishes first, or worse, will be the only thing to get finished.
GRRM will have supplied them with the neccessary scripts to plan ahead - and with their unhealthy love for their artistic freedom, they might just go ahead and do their interpretation, should he bite the dust.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool Show, but it's still "just" TV. For me, the books will always be the true story
