Re: Quick battery question
From my basic knowledge, not so happily attained I think we need to work in Watts and Joules. IxPd=P (current x Potential difference = Power)
at 1A and 3.7V we'd be using 3.7W. (1coulomb of electrons per second, each coloumb has 3.7 joules applied to it.) Now if you could tell me how many joules are stored in that battery...
Sorry I dont seem to have helped much, I'll post anyway as maybe it'll help you or someone else.

Re: Quick battery question
there really is no easy way to tell, look up reviews on the camera and see if anyone has posted anything regarding battery life

Re: Quick battery question
You can't work out how long a battery will last from it's mAh rating as it's a simple value provided by the manfacturer to represent capacity.
If you took the rating as it's provided you would come to the conclusion that if the camera drew 1A continuously it would last one hour, im afraid this is nonsense as battery companies don't test like this. The specifications on the battery are far more likly to be something like 100mA continuous draw over a 10 hour period, if you put a battery under high strain e.g drawing 1A on a 1000mAh battery it will probably last aboout 15-20 mins not the full 1 hour as expected.
The DC 5v/1A is probably the charger input and has nothing to do with the consumption of the actual device which will vary depending on the action being performed, e.g perhaps 100mA when looking at a photo and 500mA when taking a photo with flash.
