How do I upgrade towns and castles

can someone give me the basics, I want to upgrade from castles to fortress and citdels, and I see no way at all, and I don't know how to maintain the population because theres no options at all either, I see other factions with citdels and fortress , and I always play at the Starks, so we start of with a small city, and I want to be able to upgrade that. I know its got something to dow ith population, but I got no idea how to raise the pop after I've exhausted all the upgrades available (only about 2-3 farm upgrades)

am I playing the wrong mod if I'm a beginner to total wars?

I like building most of all but so far i've played this 5 times and theres really nothing to build or any variety, kinda sucks

I`m not sure whether you can upgrade towns or castles in the alpha version of this mod. Please note that the current public version is just an alpha; Less than a beta, the barest hint of the mod that we want to create. In the next version there`ll be more options to manage your towns and castles.
