help to fix/diagnose MTW 2 on steam?

i have this problem where whenever i get into the game and after choosing a faction you can't do anything because a black box pops up which says 'welcome to medieval shell' or something similar and it has a cmmand list behind it but you can't click on anything or even close it.

and also when i try to go offline on steam it says 'waiting for medieval total war 2 to close' and then tells me it can't close because medieval 2 is still open (which it isn't) any idea what i should do? i've tried re installing many times but nothing is working

This isn't the first time recently that we've heard of a problem regarding Steam and M2. I've highlighted the part I'd like you to explain in greater detail. Ideally, if you could grab a screenshot of the problem that would help us immensely.

Now as to the Steam/M2 Launcher - from what you've described it doesn't seem like M2 in loading correctly. There's something fishy here.

Some questions:

• What OS are you running?
• What anti-virus do you have on your system?
• Could you play before perfectly? Is this a recent occurrence? If you could play before but not now then that usually points to Steam.
• Is this your first install of M2 on that system? Have you installed it in disc form on that system before? When you re-installed M2 on that system did you use the Add/Remove Programs function in Windows Control Panel - or did you choose another route?

Lastly, I'll ask that this thread be moved to M2 Tech Help Forum as you'll receive more experienced help there. Answer my questions and good luck!

i have norton anti-virus.
i could play it well before but now it doesn't work at all.
i have installed it on a disc before i got it on steam but once i got it on steam (because the disc broke) i uninstalled the disc version of the game and the steam version did run o.k. until recently.

i tried putting a picture in attachments (if thats how you post a picture)
i tired a couple of the things on that list but some i don't even know how to do.
what is a dxdiag?

That picture as perfect. One question - are you using a wireless keyboard?

OS = Operating system. As in Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7.

i can close the cheat box and the command box now but then immediately after it says -game saved- and loads the same thing agian and again until i have to turn off the computer and when it doesn't do that the cheat box and command box reapper over and over .

how do i post the diag thing stats? or are yopu looking for one peice of info in particular?

i'm using windows 7 i think. i use the keyboard conencted to the lap top but sometimes i use a keyboard which is detachable because the space bar is broken off the laptop one

Update the drivers for the wireless one. May want to update the firmware for it, too.

I almost have the same problem as him. The game works fine for me and when i exit it appears to work fine. If i want to go play the game again though it trys to start the game then stops and says that it is still running forcing me to restart the computer. If i go to task manager it doesn't show up and i try to go offline or log out i have the same probelm where it tells me to close the game first.

Contact Steam support. The problem is on their and Sega's end for the program not closing properly.

Yea i did contact steam support i believe yesterday and im waiting a reply but i didn't know if other people were having the same probelm and had a fix or not
