Numidian Calvary choiches

First of all hello RTW forums first post just for you

second I recently have been very much enjoying the skirmishing type army and numidia seems as fun a faction as any to do it with. My question revolves around what calvary choices I should take. Keeping in mind the maximum calvary available in CWB rules and teh standard grassy flatlands map. Is it worth it to bring camels on a non dessert map (i'm not too familiar with what the camal bonouses are), should i mix melee cav (camals/shields) and Numidian cav, and finally what ratio should I take? I'm mainly interested in 15k games but advice on any money is appreciated thx.

Well i mostly mix Numidian Camel Riders with Long Shield Cav but i prefer LSC much more as the camel bonus does not compensate their slow speed for me. I generally go 6 GG LSC, 2 GG Camels or Javcav depending on enemy, 2 GG slingers and 6 GG archers. i then toss in some cheap inf or some chevrons on either the cav or the archers. the fast moving bonus of the LSC is much more important.

also what are teh exact bonouses of camels vs calvary? I seem to recall it being something like plus attack for camels and minus defense for enemy

Numidia has:

Long shield cav-good fast light cav.

Camels-The best anti cav weapon you have. Camels get a +4 attack bonus vs cav and cav lose 2 attack. Camels do not effect morale but do effect attack. Consequently they are only effective whilst in melee, which is why i don't like camelphracts.

Numidian jav cav-good jav cav that is relatively cheap.

What cav you want depends on your situation. Vs a faction like greece and thrace, i'd take just the jav cav, however to fight a faction with HA it might be worth taking a couple or relying on the long shield cav.
Long shields are the melee variant of your skirmishing cav and can form wedge, but g/g long shields cost more tahn g/g jav cav.

Numidian camels are the most effective way to beat stronger cav. Numidian camels will beat maidens, and with the appropriate skill, stand a good chance vs catas if properly supported (16 att 17 def for camels v 8 att and 26 def for catas in melee). That assumes the camels are g/g+1exp and the catas are g/g.

From my experience there are a few styles of cav that i play.

Skirmish style-ie 6 jav cav for factions like greece. This is usually combined with 6 g/g+1exp legions, taking into account the fact these factions rely heavily on their inf.

Semi Skirmish style-ie a mixture of jav cav and long shield cav, with few or no camels. This is most likely deployed vs a faction like pontus or egy, where camels are not a solution due to my opponent relying heavily on chariots. Melee cav is however useful for hammer and anvil etc etc.

Camel/Long shield style-used for a faction like Macedon, dacia, rome etc. Essentially i'd take a mixture of camels and long shields, possibly with 2 jav cav or more melee cav depending on the situation. Jav cav is preferable for HA.
That is the style of Numidia you'll probably play most. Numidia typically combines 8 archer units, 8 cav and 4 legions. I have experimented successfully with 6 legion, 6 cav, 8 archer and 8 archer 8 cav armies in the past however.

Camel Style-A semi rush played as numidia is my favourite way of fighting scythia. With 6 g/g+1exp camels (which pwn maidens) and either 2 g/g long shields or 2 g/g jav cav. This is usually combined with 8 archer units and 4 desert inf, rather than legions (because desert inf has spears).
I have adopted this camel style whilst playing as Parthia, opting to take 6 bedouin camels rather than catas at 6 g/g+3exp and deployed a similar army ,taking advantage of heavy spears, whilst playing as Armenia.

Vs scythia Numidian camel style ties imo with seleucian and pontic scythe chariot rushes as the best way to deal with them.
