Ghost Factions

Playing as the Fatamids (Savage, BGRIV, RR, VH/VH), I had an alliance with the Romans/Byzantines who were also allied to the CS. I went to war with and destroyed the CS, as a result the Romans broke their alliance with me.

I want to get that alliance again so I can focus on the Seljuks and fend off a crusade coming my way, but I still can't (I wasn't able to before because I was at war with their ally). At varying intervals I keep seeing CS faction leader dead/CS faction destroyed messages. I've had this happen before in previous SS campaigns where destroyed factions have these messages keep coming up, but only now is it an issue.

It seems the game regards the CS as still being alive somehow (or keeps reviving them?). Any ideas how to fix this?

In this very moment you have killed CS faction Romans were allied with them.
You can't get an alliance with the Romans anymore becouse you have finished off their allies

Simple.
That's how it works. It would be stupid if anyone would like to ally someone who have killed their ally.

As far as I know the map is clear of their agents, unless a spy is hiding in a city somewhere. I used toggle_fow but couldn't find anything.

That would certainly make a hell of a lot of sense, but I'm sure I've done this in the past, or at least there has been the option for an alliance, at the moment the diplomacy option isn't there at all. Perhaps your right

Do you know if there is a time limit on it?

Similar questions have been asked before and it was usually agents that hadn't died yet - as you said, it might well be a spy ...

I believe it was about Teutonic Order. Remember that Teutons are scripted as a Horde and emergent faction, so they can survive without region under control.
And what seems to be even more crucial they (Teutonic Order) don't have family tree. Crusader States are normal faction, if they lost all their settlements they are gone, if they lost all male family members they are gone as well and settlements they have will turn rebel.

Well, i have experienced this kind of stuff many times and it always worked like i wrote above. Can't say if there is any time limit ;/
