Default Adding a General to the Campaign

Hello all, I am a complete novice at modding, but eager to learn. I am trying to start with something simple.

I want to add the Mouth of Sauron as a General, at the start of the Mordor campaign, garrisoned at the Black Gate.

Could someone kindly either provide a step-by-step, very detailed (I am a complete novice) tutorial for how to create a new general, or direct me to an existing tutorial? (I have looked for, but not found one.)

    Thanks in advance~

Since I can't find the tutorial I remember read somewhere also, I think it's nice to start one.
It's simple and easy to make a character thats working actually.

First, go for descr_strat in the campaign folder.
It will be very long, and hard to edit.
    So use the 'Find' thing.
Search for a General of the faction you want your new character be in.

Then start add lines. Copy a existing one will work good enough.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    ;\mods\Third_Age\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat

Here are the lines of Elrohir. We will use it to analyze the system:
character Elrohir, named character, male, age 21, x 39, y 232, portrait Elrohir, battle_model elrohir ;harlindon
    traits Elrohir 1 , LoyaltyStarter 1 , GoodCommander 1 , ReligionStarter 1 , Loyal 1 , StrategyChivalry 1 , ChivalryLegacy 2

    ancillaries lord_mithlond
    army
unit Elf Nobel Mount exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
    unit Elf Archer exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
    unit Elf Archer exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
    unit Elf Archer exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

The important parts are these: name, type(named character, general, spy etc.), sex, age and starting location.
Next line are the traits and things. And the extra line, copied from Elladan, was the ancillaries.

Now, we have a basic table:
character (name), named character, male, age (age), x (x-axis), y (y-axis)
    traits (traits, list them here)

ancillaries (various ancillaries, also list them here)
    army
    unit (Bodyguard) exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

Skip a line, and paste the finished things up.
Here is how it will look like, a character with no trait and no ancillary. It will start out as 0-star and 0 anything.
    Code:
character Elrohir, named character, male, age 21, x 39, y 232, portrait Elrohir, battle_model elrohir ;harlindon
    traits Elrohir 1 , LoyaltyStarter 1 , GoodCommander 1 , ReligionStarter 1 , Loyal 1 , StrategyChivalry 1 , ChivalryLegacy 2
    army
unit Elf Nobel Mount exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
    unit Elf Archer exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
    unit Elf Archer exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
    unit Elf Archer exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    character Knight, named character, male, age 18, x 97, y 232

    army
    unit Knights Templar exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
And a basic but working anyway character is done.

P.S There are additional, make it look better but somewhat advanced things not included here.

I just made and added one to Gondor. It is not that hard actually when you look in the relevant files it is evident.

The important thing is that it will not work unless you add the name to the relevant folders and documents. If it was not detailed in the helpful post above, try a search for "Changing General Name", it should come up.

Sorry to not be more helpful ATM, but I am dead tired.

This is a step by step guide I made a while ago when I was making my own general for the High Elves.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...71#post9770671

It does not show you how to add a new picture and ingame model, but send me a PM and I'll write you a guide on that too, should you wish to know it.

Edit: The easiest way, though, is to follow KnightsTemplar's guide.

Please leave your name if you should decide to +rep me!

3.) Replace the appropriate general's name with the name you have just added in the descr_strat file in mods/ThirdAge/data/world/map/campaign/imperial_campaign

If you want a custom portrait that is considerably more detailed and can be done by following the directions in this thread.
I also wanted to add Argaladir's guide, but he already did himself ;-)

This is one of the few bits of modding that I can actually do ^_^, along with adding custom names

I've added, Feanor, Finarfin and Fingolfin to my Noldor Elf campaign. Not particulary loreish but who cares

If you didn't already know, there is already a custom portrait for the Mouth of Sauron in the game files. It's listed as: mouthofsauron.

There is a similar new thread? Why?
Under the patronage of Finlander. Once patron to someone, no longer.
    Content's well good, innit.
