You can't, unless you create an invisible bodyguard unit to go round with him, but they would still fight.

You can't have a unit created fewer than 6 men in EDU.txt. (And that will have factors of 1/2, 1, 2, or 4 applied to it depending on the unit size setting in game.)

There might be a way to write a script that would do this, but I'm not a scripter.

I know that the Troy:Total War Team did something like using a transparent bodyguard unit and then scripting the game to kill them at the start of a battle. Obviously ridiculously hard, but still, its possible ...

That should work. It shouldn't be difficult to make transparent units...a little alpha channel work and blank mip maps will do the trick. Not sure how you avoid the ground shadow though...I guess one could make them ridiculously small as well. GIMP is really good at generating blank mip maps when I want real ones. The units are nearly invisible even though the alpha is fine.

As far are shadows are concerned, it might be best to just remove them altogether. I am not sure how much shadows really add to the ambience of the game anyways.

No, I don't think the exe allows that anymore. If you turn off shadows you still get the shadow blob as I recall.

It could also just be a General who had all his bodygaurd killed in the battle. Was the screenshot at the beginning of a battle, the end, or were you not sure?
