I would prefer we edge away from splitting the senate down the middle by over simplification. That is to say, between calling ourselves either Optimates or Populares. These were not terms the Senatorials gave themselves but names textbooks gave them later in order to simplify it for idiots in Roman Civ 101 classrooms. Cicero called the traditionalist block the "boni" and populist is just a term that refers to individuals that pander to the mob for support. I would prefer we claim ourselves as neither. Instead, if factions are to arise, they should be referred to as a bloc. I think it is pretty obvious to see the evolution of the "Caesarian bloc" in the game. That is fine. However, one of the most annoying things about YATS was the political party system which was just a stupid way for people to start hating other peoples' characters for no in game reason. It is an intellectual cop out to simplify the Roman Revolution in this way. There are a few ways to advance your character in this game through populism or traditional means but I really discourage fragmenting due to any sort of reason other than direct conflict of interest that poses a detriment to your character.
