    Default Troops from where?

Is there any way of finding out from which population center troops were recruited from?It just occurs to me that it might be use full to throw troops from a city/town that is suffering from paying out loads for troops not based in the city/town into battle to assist in reducing the finacial load on those hard pressed cities/towns.If not it might be a useful mod.

No, to my knowledge there is no way you can track what cities recruit which units. The only way I can think of is if you keep it all down on a post-it note or something. Still, it wouldn't be worth your time because the income shown below the cities on the campaign map isn't exactly what they are making. (Check the scrolls to see harvests, trade, etc.) And if you think a city has a population that is suffering from taxes, just recruit from there because the cities with bigger populations have to pay more for the upkeep of soldiers.

What i actually mean is this.On one of the screens it tells you how much the city is spending on the army recruited.During the game these units can be in all 4 corners of the known world.so to reduce the financial burden you could track the units and use them in preferance to others, so as to reduce the amount the city is spending ,hopefuly moving the city into a positive cash situation.Hope this makes it a wee bit clearer.Of course post it note might be one way but how to actually differentiate them from others?Perhaps a small code letter for the recruiting city on the unit cards?

    Andym,

My understanding (although I confess I haven't actually verified it) is that your city's share of the military burden has nothing to do with how many troops it makes. The way it is figured is the total military upkeep is divided by total empire population. Then the resulting per-person tax is multiplied by the city's population to get the city's share of the burden.

It is easy to see that this is at least close to the truth, since cities in which you have built NO units will still carry a good share of the military burden. The only thing left to figure out is if there is some fudge factor for where the troops were built. I don't believe there is; but, as I said, I haven't confirmed it. I do, however, build and retrain the bulk of my military in 3 highly specialized cities. So if the fudge factor were large, I'd know about it.

    Hope this helps.

Exactaly what noble nick says. Your total expenditure on your military is devided amoung all your cities based on population. So large cities will be paying more than smaller cities towards your troop upkeep costs. Also this means that, as The Seleucid Empire pointed out, there is no city that is truely a "burden" on your economy, since no city can actualy be losing money, even if the campaign map shows them in the negatives.

Though I would like to see something like this for another reason. namely morale bonuses. Some troops have morale bonuses from being trained with certain buildings in place. It's troubling that there is no way to know which troops have these once you train them. And like you said andym, there's basicaly no way to keep track of where you recruited these troops once they're out on the campaign trail. Especialy when I build 3 units, then a building is completed which gives those bonuses, so I end up with a stack all from the same city with different morale.

I think we could solve this (not modders, I mean CA) by putting ALL stats in the unit description. I still fail to see why players only need a breif summary of thier unit's stats. Just look at the descr_unit file, there's all kinds of usefull information that players would surely like to have in there. Morale, training level, missile capacity, attack rate, stamana info, specific bonuses v. unit type and on different terrain. Why not put those in front of RTW players? Or at least M2TW players...little to late for RTW.

I for one would agree with hsimoorb, that information would be very useful to me. I've had battles where I've had no idea about some of those stats (things I could have used) and lost battles because of it. I'd like to be able to see my high-morale troops, and then use them as a kind of elite "holding force" to be used against stronger forces while I hit them from the side, for example. In any event, perhaps someone will be able to mod it, or CA will be able to stick something of that nature into a later game as has been suggested.

Indeed youve hit the nub and crux of the matter!you go to all the trouble of training exeptional troops only to loose them in the ensuing turns, especially if youre very active on the military front.Theres is nothing like the groan of dissapointment to not find your elite shocktroops you so carefully recruited for such the emergency you find yourself in!It get sbigger and louder as you realise you need a time machine to get them to were they are needed!I thing the addition of further stats on the unit cards would be most helpful.
