Hope someone helps.

I played this game for a while with no problems. Then dropped, but did not uninstall it. However brother deleted desktop shortcut, and now when I try to launch game from it's folder "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application."

I am playing with no steam, and Golden edition rome!

of course! The thing is the game run before without problems!

Which disc/exe are you using? Rtw, bi or alex?

Deleting the desktop shortcut will not give you any problems, All you need to do is to create a new shortcut from the executable - simply right mouse click it and select 'send to>desktop'.

Make sure that the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM is in the drive bay before launching - you need the disc in place to run the game. The disc itself may have been damaged or needing a clean. Smudge marks can mean that the disc cannot be read.


Also in the past I have applied the R:TW patch for 1.1 or 1.2 onto a R:TW 1.3 or later install - this will downgrade the install and will ask for a different disc than the one you used to install the game.....

You should still be able to launch just fine.

I guess the question is what exactly are you trying to launch? You said "when I try to launch game from it's folder" - so what exactly are you launching from where? If the Roma Surrectum II.exe from inside RS2\launcher that should absolutely work, shortcut or not, so it would suggest that the shortcut wasn't the only thing deleted.

Maybe your brother did more than he thought?
