I heard of this and I'm fairly pissed...You don't simply replace a comic book character that has gone that far back. Killing off Parker just to add a biracial superhero in order to be "modern" is ludicrous...Creating a new character instead, however, would have been far better.

Or Dominican, or Cuban.

I've never been a big Spiderman fan, but I guess it has been about time that they begin moving the character and the stories along.

FFS people, it's in the Ultimate universe and even in mainstream continuity there have been other Spider-Men, like ing Ben Reilly (ok yeah, he was a clone but still)/

Well he had MJ, Blackcat and Gwen Stacy. I'd say that he wasn't.

For those who don't know, this series takes place in the Ultimate universe, as Manco said, which is a more modern version of the regular Marvel '616' universe, where the true continuity takes place. In the Ultimate universe, Peter Parker, after years of comics, is killed by Norman Osborn in a penultimate battle. Miles Morales is now taking over but I don't know how yet. I'm pretty sure the writer, Brian Michael Bendis, said there wasn't a good chance Peter is getting one of those good-ol' comic resurrections anytime soon.

They already kind of due, he was in for like 6 pages in the current book but he sounded just like Peter did, and with how many races they decided to pack in there it just seems like a gimmick replacement character. Plus they are really pointing out the whole look he isnt white! Angle which makes it worse. Of course I hated the whole DOSM gimmick anyway.

The difference is that they aren't trying to have a diversity gimmick with Nick Fury. Spiderman the Mixed-Race-Homosexual-Superhero.

Within 6 months Parker will return from the dead, if Ben Reilly a character people actually connected to couldnt do it (replacing Parker), if Bucky a character with a decade long history couldnt do it (replace Cap America) then some lame ass pr stunt like this certainly isnt going to do it. Want a cool minority superhero? How about creating one, look what was done with Luke Cage...they turned him from lame ass handband wearing 70s joke into a Marvel powerhouse. Hell look at Warmachine, Cyborg over in DC dunno about anyone else but when Warmachine showed up in the Iron Man movie crowd went cheering. Create interesting characters not pr stunts.

Fury is a secondary character and one where there was no where else to go story wise, Spiderman is the gold standard of Marvel. As far as the gay thing hell only thing missing then is he isnt a woman, maybe he'll turn out to be a tranny. Its like Marvel spun the Wheel O Minority to design this character. Hell in the Ultimate Universe there is a female clone of Parker running around, why doesnt SHE pick up the mantle after his death in his honor since its basically a genetic clone. Hell even Kitty trying with some gadets to make up for abilities she doesnt have would make sense story wise since she was FURIOUS over his death...no spider sense? Just phase out of the way of bullets!

You left out Black Panther, he is okay. Plus he has a solo title. But I liked the new Nick fury as he wasnt really a dramatic thing, he was Nick Fury and he was black, it didnt define him, it wasnt hyped up like this is currently being. Ultimate Nick Fury is a lot better then the old one.
