Things are very seldom what they seem. In my experience, they’re usually a damn sight worse.

i have it, it a good mod, but you can't do sieges. Also there is a campaign but any siege it will CTD and there are submods aswell. The main modders are working on a different mod so when they have time they will add sieges and lots of other things

Question 1
yes you can play custom battles, however when you first play the mod there is only about 10 maps, but there is a extra download that gives you about 25+ maps.
Question 2
there is a software called WinRAR, its a free download that you can unpack common files like these, RAR and ZIP file formats.
Nearly all mods including this one you can use winRAR or depending by what internet browser your using it will just download automatically in your folder
