Being popular with the Senate happens because you do their bidding well. The more popular you are with the Senate, the better rewards they give you for completing missions.

usually if your senate favor is full then best to watch your back as one of the other roman factions is surging and garnering huge popular support-- thus, the senate seeing yourself as a shield
other times it means the senate is starting to fear you-- thus, they will up the ante on giving you random missions away from rome and away from their fleeting power base
nothing happens, however, as far as triggering some kind of event-- however, you will probably have a better chance of your family members getting a senatorial position (and some more general cav bodyguards...)
as others have said, when popular support gets up there it is possible to attack senate/rome

I thought if you get maxed the senate goes and says he should be granted the key to the Vestal virgins ?. I do not think anything happens.. Just that when you check the senate they say something like this.

If the senate likes you, then the rewards from missions are better like getting first legionary cohort. When its low, the penalty is for example, your secret will be exposed

Really?your leader eats babiesI never was penaltied by the Senate ever (ok, 1 exception: When I was Julii, I had maxed out standing by the senate, the scipii were outlawed, I got a mission to attack them, refused, and was penaltied with the quaestor - But I "Had Friends in High Ranks" so nothing happened.
