    Other News

The Writing Competition is the main attraction for the Scriptorium for the next couple months, and as such all of the librarians' efforts will be focused on administering the competition. However, you may still submit any regular entries to the Scriptorium as normal. The Scriptorium grows constantly with the work of our own forum members, and we have created a truly unique collection of articles covering a large range of topics. More submissions for both the Scriptorium and the writing competition just means more work for poor old Hader next editorial!

    Article Reviews

This month we bring you two new article reviews, from our librarians Nyxos and Maximus IV. They cover two different but related tutorial articles for TW modding. Enjoy!

DJ's Beginner Tutorial to Modding: Changing, Adding, and Removing unit parts (by Dee Jay) - Review by Nyxos
DJ's Beginner Tutorial to Modding: Changing, Adding, and Removing unit parts (by Dee Jay) - Review by Nyxos

    Author: Dee Jay
Original Thread: DJ's Beginner Tutorial To Modding: Changing, Adding and Removing Unit Parts

This tutorial for Napoleon : Total War is probably one of the best I have read. Dee Jay explains with great patience and clarity how to create and mix uniforms using only the PFM and requiring absolutely no skinning or graphical skills. The only thing one needs to make a new uniform is a little time and a keyboard, perfect for graphically dumb people such as myself and very good for artists that want to get a grasp at how uniforms work in this game before they start making their own and create entirely new and fashionable units.

This kind of modding can be very tedious and hard to grasp. As a member of a mod team, I often see my fellow modders or myself struggle with this. But Dee Jay makes it seem easy and the numerous screen-shots taken at each stage of the tutorial make this kind of modding accessible to absolutely everyone.

If you want to make your uniform more historically accurate or more pleasing to the eye, or just mess around with the game (come on, you know its fun) then you'll need this tutorial, or else you'll never see Napoleonic era soldiers wearing tutus, and that'd be a damn shame. Now get to work and make me such a mod !

    Author: Dee Jay
Original Thread: DJ's Beginner Tutorial To Modding: Creating Your Own Unit Card

This excellent tutorial ,made by Dee Jay,explains in detail and with clarity how to create your own unit card. It has plenty of pictures to help the beginner modder. He also provides the program you will need and a helpful pack to do your job easier. The writer describes every single step of his work with both pictures and words for better understanding. This tutorial requires the basic knowledge of Gimp since he uses the tools for his work a lot. An interesting and worthy to read tutorial and a must for every new modder that wants to learn how to mod NTW!

Did you like this tutorial? Be happy! Dee Jay has a series of tutorials focusing on modding NTW!
