I think that the Seleucid is without a doubt the most overpowered faction in the game. They have the strengths of nearly every faction. The only thing they seem to lack is really good long range horse archers. Macedon is a bit harder to use. POM likes them because #1 he loves their history of course. #2 it provides a bit of a challenge. What's the point if there is no challenge? Don't get me wrong....LOVE Seleucid. Just saying there is room for a bit of a challenge every now and then.

Infantry: UBER-GODLIKE-DEMIGOD-URBAN-COHORTS
Cavalry: Praetorian Cavalry are way legit. Beat companions.
Missile: Archer Auxilia are also way legit
Shock: Nothing, thank goodness
Light cavalry: Equites are perfect for the job.
Rome is the most overpowered.

I suppose it depends on how you each one I suppose. I've seen phalanxes punch through Urbans like tissue paper, and I've seen elephants and chariots put the beat down on Praetorian's. If well balanced and used correctly, either army could beat the other. Personally, I think the combined power of Elephants, Chariots, and Companions make Seleucid Cav supreme. And when it comes to infantry, Phalanxes with supporting Legions? How is that fair? lol.

I'd say the worst faction would be someone like the Gauls or the Spanish. Macedon is a lot easier to use than the really weak factions like that.

to speak factions' viability in mp without reference to denarii, rules, unit size, money, or type of battle (1v1,2v2,3v3,4v4) is an exercise of babbling past one another
cases can be made for nearly all factions if the situations present themselves
personally i usually play 25k or 31k large no art/ele 6 max cav
in these games seleucia and macedon bring different strengths/weaknesses-- seleucia has the cav/chariots but need to usually be rushed since their infantry gets annihilated by most other higher money factions and they have no long ranged missiles
macedon is a versatile faction especially in a 3v3-- for example, let us suppose a 31k 3v3 where one team is going for the "rome buster gambit" of using briton, egypt, and a random 3rd faction; against 3 romes it could be devastating but 2 romes and 1 macedon can counter the "rome buster" handily
nevertheless, both factions if used poorly are many times the source of a royal/silver shield pike spam mass team rout-- macedon's cav is "weak" against prats, cats, and chars so best bet is to harass with light lancers and leave a reserve pike group to be the anit-enemy cav buster and most good players will prepare to counter the catas which is seleucia's main contribution

at 10k you could only get like 1 catas and 6 jav cav can destroy them and then there pretty good cav (can you get six?)

The scenario you are presenting is if there is only cavalry. If that's the case, then the outnumbered cataphracts would shrug off most, definitely not all the missles. Then in trying to chase down the faster cav they would get exhausted, then it MIGHT be in the Numidian's favor. However, what I am talking about is entire armies. Once you include the best army possible for Numidia, and the best army possible for Seleucia, the Numidian's are done. Not a chance. Even with the best Gold Gold Jav Cav. They are toast.

Regardless, the Numidians truly don't stand much of a chance. The ONLY way they could win is with some hit and run skirmish, and if they SEVERELY outnumbered the seleucids. I mean, at least 3 to 1.
