    Default Abdul Rahman: Afghan Martyr?

Not sure if anyone has posted a thread about this, or if its being discussed elsewhere, sorry if that is so.

Well, basically Mr Rahman is an Afghani man who has converted to Christianity, a crime punishable by death in Afghanistan. just recently his case was "thrown out" by the Afghan courts, causing protests by the usual suspects (Islamic fundamentalists) in Kabul to have him executed.

Definitly a brave man (or possibly insane). Even though i dont agree with his "cause", i can still respect his attempt to stand up for it.

    CNN's story on Abdul Rahman

Anyway, this story involves a lot more than just one man. Is this the Afghanistan the US envisioned when they went in to topple the Taliban? It seems they are reverting back to their old ways rather quickly.
More importantly, it seems the US government has been pressuring Hamid Karzai to find a way to release Rahman, (probably because they are being pressured by the "Christian Right" in the US). I'd imagine that lots of people in Afghanistan are executed for no good reason, yet because Rahman is a Christian, people start caring about it?
If it was just another Muslim, he'd probably be dead by now and we'd have never heard about it

It will be interesting to see what happens anyway. If Karzai pushes too much to get Rahman freed, he will lose a lot of credibility with his people. If he does nothing, he will anger his American allies (or paymasters, depending which way you want to look at it)

Like I said before, if Mao's cultural revolution was aimed to make China a Christian nation, the US would be very pro-China.

If Mao's cultural revolution had been aimed to make China a Christian country, it would have been what it is now: a crime.

On one hand you think it's wrong for them to execute him for being a christian....then you john kerry(oh i mean flipflop) and say that he doesn't need special treatment and should be executed

EDIT: i'm probably not reading what you meant though

With that kind of attitude it’s no wonder the public voted for Bush.
But good on Abdul for standing up for himself and well done on th Afgan courts for throwing out the case.

    another question.
I'd imagine that lots of people in Afghanistan are executed for no good reason, yet because Rahman is a Christian, people start caring about it?
When you say people get executed all the time, do you mean, say for killing someone? or do you mean for, say, shaving your beard?

If so, linky me to that.

    edited for claritys sake.
