Titus Felix Celatus arrives at the Senators home. He hits his hand on the door, and waits on the street side.
The only slave in the Marcellinus household meets him at the door. She is an attractive young thing, slim but not skinny. The way that she walks suggests she gets used just as you would imagine the unmarried senator to use her.
She politely shows him to the Senator.
Slave! Drinks! Now!
Gods damn that slave, she is useless! Doesn't know the simplist thing. What i get for buying a rosy cheeked gaul i guess.
What can i do for you today Senator?
"Why must Senators always ask what they may do for each other. Can we not be simple and just speak?"
Titus chuckled
"But I thought I should get to know the person who will be representing the people who I grew up with. And based on pure speculation and some not so pure, you seem to be that person."
Probably because whenever someone comes visiting they want something!
Lucius Primus grinned. He was a loud boisterous man, more used to dealing in the markets than 'civilised' conversation.
"You've got me there. Everyone wants something from someone in this day. But I really have come here to discuss if you plan to enact any reforms for the people of Rome, Senator."
ooc; give me a chance to think of something
ic; I have no such plans at the moment! But i shall carefully watch every piece of legislature that goes though!
"That's good. An ordinary man takes things as they come Senator. Seems you are who you represent."
Titus smiled
I try to be!
What about you?
"I find it difficult to take things as they come. My job is finances, and you can never take that short term, otherwise it kills you, and the economy your represent."
A petitioner arrives holding a bundle of papers
Marcellinus! A petition for ye! Hear what I got to say!
"It seems you have business to take care of. I will not hold you up any longer Noble Tribune. It was a pleasure meeting you. Good Day Sir."
Celatus made a nod then left the Domus
Tribune Marcellinus, I represent a committee of disgruntled citizens. We have been meeting and have decided to plead our case with you. As veterans of the Spanish Wars of 61, we feel we are entitled to some compensation for our troubles. We would like you to present a bill to the senate that would allow veterans to collect a lump sum of pension payment equal to one gold denarusi per head for this year as a stimulus measure. My arm is useless, I cannot work. Took an arrow to the shoulder, ya see. Many of my comrades are in a similar state. Work's been hard to find around the city lately. Do you think you could present a bill to the senate?
ooc: The facts of the case:
As of 61 BCE, 35,000 legionaries were fighting in the mountains of Spain suppressing CeltIberian rebels. When the war ended in 60, 23,000 remained alive. 4,000 veterans from the war now live in the city of Rome. 8,500 veterans remain alive in Italy. The rest are out of contact.
(random roll: 10. Social Reforms: 1)
Have you not received any pension? I thought that the Senate promised compensation to those that serve.
Not a single ass of it, sir. I'll return to the boys and tell 'em you're our man!
The anonymous petitioner was lost in the crowd
A messenger arrives bearing a message from Consul Cincinnatus
Greetings Lucius,
I would like to request you to join me in my camp for a meeting to discuss the current state of affairs in Rome and the disturbing news out of the east. There is a ship in Ostia sent from my fleet waiting for you, should you decide to join us.
Consul Cincinnatus
