Anyone watching the new Torchwood? I'm surprised there isn't a topic for this show.

I've been watching it, was really a bit dissapointing for the first 2 or 3 eps, but episode 4 was really entertaining. I just hope Russel T Davies doesn't feck this show up like he did during his reign as writer of Doctor Who, creating a scenario so impossible to get out of it requires beyond ridiculous events to occur.

Analysis should not be diverted by reflections upon the zeal with which the victors at the end of the Second World War punished the defeated for war crimes. The victors were animated by the ideals of the Atlantic Charter and of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was about to peep over the eastern horizon. But first, they wanted a little hanging.
There was a thread somewhere about the new series, but it seems to have got lost lol. Yea I am really enjoying the new series, as I enjoyed the last ones aswell
I enjoyed the first few seasons more, but this new one is pretty good (although it does annoy me quite a bit sometimes)
Yeah I started a topic on the new thread but it died pretty quickly and then got lost in the previous pages![]()

Does anyone know how many episodes there are for Miracle Day? Up to episode 5 now and wondering how much longer I've got to go
There are 10 episodes:

I've got to say I enjoy it. What I like about Torchwood in general is the sheer 'wink wink' ludicrousness of it, it's clearly aimed at people who know TV well enough not to question it. I like shows which take the mick out of themselves, this one has a tendency to do it in a fairly clever way too.
The last 2 series have gotten a bit darker overall, the undertones are a touch more serious in the general structure of the story. The idea behind Miracle Day is that it asks some troubling questions of us as humans and offers glimpses of genuine, bottomless darkness which are then purposely dispelled by some cheesy lines, explosions and a fair whiff of Team America. Summed up perfectly by the bit where Ms Monroe is crushed alive inside of a limo at a scrappies, followed by a shot of her eyeball, visibly puzzled, surveying its new, cold, eternal home. Genius.
Just watched episode 7.
Jack is a whore and I find myself slightly uncomfortable watching all the sex scenes, with which this episode is simply brimming. Move aside, Brokeback Mountain, there's a new couple in town. Now, I don't think I'm a homophobe but watching 2 grown men pledge love and frolick endlessly for 40 minutes is not my cup of tea. I can see why Ecclestone left Dr Who when he did.
Hope there's a bit more go in upcoming episodes.
I wish there were different storylines rather than concentrating on miracle day
I like it.

Well, the most recent episode was...interesting.

this whole time I was thinking that was going to happen. It made sense.

I think the last two episodes have finally taken off. I know they need to do the whole exposition thing, just think they could have done everything they have in 4 episodes so far. Not to say I'm a typical gringo that needs action action action, I just felt they were dragging the story along for no real reason up till now.
Anyway, really enjoying it.

Yea it is RTD behind the show though, so it's to be expected. I actually nearly gave up watching after episode 6, the constant nothingness that was happening except for the human race being complete dicks to eachother was hard to watch. To make matters worse, the first episode where something actually happens has about 30 minutes of gay sex in it, joy.
Unless some seriousgoes down this week, I may give up. Though, Who's back this weekend, so I might be a bit shaky in waiting for it and get my fix from TW.

I have to say I agree. I don't mind gay characters on tv but a large chunk of an episode showing them getting it on (and it was fairly graphic, it wasn't hinted at like some other tv shows whose characters have sex) doesn't really do anything for me.
Plus Jack isn't actually Gay he's Bisexual (hence the fact he has kids and grandkids) but you wouldn't think it from this series

Yes the flashbacks were ridiculously graphic and not much thought had been put into them. I can tolerate such kissing, but there was more nudity there than in any of the straight sex scenes put together over 4 series of TW! Such scenes really don't help improve Torchwood's (currently) shaky reputation. The only chance the series has to continue is based on the previous series and the chance of it returning to previous form.
Amazing how Jack told his boyfriend (whose name, despite about 40 mins of screentime, still hasn't stuck in my head) how he was a "fixed point in time" - how did he know that? In that point in time it is 70 or so years before he takes over Torchwood Cardiff and finally reunites with the Doctor (between TW S1 and 2) who tells him what happened and how he is a "fixed point in time".
For crying out loud! Keep a consistent narrative!
I honestly don't have a problems with the various sexual activities they are using, so long as it propels the story. For the most part I get the feeling that Showtime is putting it in because that seems to be the thing to do with cable shows. I had no problem with the black guy and the doctor, cause there was an end game purpose to that, but Jack banging the bartender seemed just there for shock value, even if it was funny how they juxtaposed it with the girl guy sex scene.
As for the flash back with 'was his name Enzo?', I'm bad with names, I didn't mind that one since it seemed natural and led some where.
I do feel that 'Americaness' to the show and it disappoints me cause its comes off as so fake in many ways. But, now that they got themselves back on their feet, I think (hope) the series picks up and meets the bar set by the shows past.
As for the timeline, this is another factor for acquiring a new audience. Yes, they should have had the information come out when he met the CIA folk, but the purpose of it is to get people who don't know anything about the show to understand who Jack is. I do think that this particular run of the series has suffered from some poor writing and editing choices.
