Default General For Ptolemies are Missing

I'm trying to make my own Historical Battle for the Battle of Asculum, since the current one uses mostly historically incorrect units for the battle and the Independent Greeks faction have no elephants.

I was going to use the Ptolemaic faction since the units correspond the most to the Epirote army, lighter and more mobile, plus Ptolemaic Elephants. I find that in custom battles, that the Ptolemaic Generals are non-existant.

I've also got issues with a lot of factions seeming to have missing unit cards as well. But the main issue I want to work on is see how to restore the proper general for the Ptolemies.

I have been attempting to upload screenshots of this issue, but when I take screenshots and I paste it into paint, it just shows up as all black.

I am running Win 7 64-bit, have Roma Surrectum II installed in its own separate RTW 1.5 installation and the 2.1 patch is installed. Reinstalling RSII doesn't seem to rectify the issue.

    Hey
    For screenshots use Fraps.
Also, the white unit cards are because there are more units than the game was originally designed to take.
For the generals issue, ill take a look as soon as possible, or someone else might be able to.
It might be a case of unit rosters being incorrect, in which case i can link you to a better one that hopefully has the issue fixed.

Much obliged, Hellhound1! I can't believe I hadn't even thought of using Fraps. I'll do so. +rep man

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    No bodyguard - Ptolemy

An example of missing unit cards, no big deal

    No bodyguard - Independent Greeks

Also, I do get very frequent CTDs on both campaign and in mid-battles.

There is no general in the Ptolemaic army list for custom battles. I think there should be.

Part of the problem is the huge numbers of units that are available to each faction. One thing that you can do is to edit the export_descr_unit.txt file (take a copy first) and remove the 'no-custom' attribute:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    type bruttian spearman
    dictionary bruttian_spearman
    category infantry
    class spearmen
    voice_type Medium_1
    soldier roman_triarii, 50, 0, 1.256
    officer greek_standard
    mount_effect horse +2
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, very_hardy, no_custom
    formation 1, 1, 2, 2, 5, square, shield_wall
    stat_health 1, 5
    stat_pri 12, 13, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, piercing, spear, 25, 0.275
    stat_pri_attr light_spear, spear_bonus_4
    stat_sec 14, 11, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, piercing, sword, 25, 0.292
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 7, 21, 6, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 1, flesh
    stat_heat 2
    stat_ground 0, 0, -2, -2
    stat_mental 22, disciplined, trained
    stat_charge_dist 33
    stat_fire_delay 5000
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 0, 1815, 559, 274, 366, 227
ownership barbarian, nomad, carthaginian, eastern, parthia, egyptian, greek, slave

In order to get screen shots of some units in the faction previews I did this in my own files.

Having said that if you look at the entry for the Ptolemaic general there is no such attribute:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    type ptolemaic generals bodyguard
    dictionary ptolemaic_generals_bodyguard
    category cavalry
    class heavy
    voice_type General_1
    soldier hetairoi, 12, 0, 1
    officer east_heavy_standard
    mount generals armoured horse
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, general_unit, frighten_foot, hardy
    formation 1.5, 4, 3, 6, 3, square
    stat_health 1, 14
    stat_pri 11, 48, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, piercing, spear, 25, 0.418
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 12, 40, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, slashing, sword, 25, 0.286
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 13, 12, 0, metal
    stat_sec_armour 9, 1, flesh
    stat_heat 3
    stat_ground -1, -1, -5, -3
    stat_mental 24, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 90
    stat_fire_delay -350000
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 2, 1719, 610, 260, 349, 215
    ownership egypt

I would think that the problem is that there is a limit to the number of units that can be displayed on the unit roster for a faction in Custom Battles and the Ptolemaics (and maybe the Independant Greeks) have reached this limit.

So, the solution may be to find some units in the Ptolemaic custom battle unit roster that you don't want to use(ever) and add the 'no_custom' attribute to them.

As some units will be shared across factions removing them from the Ptolemaic roster will also remove them from the other factions as well - remember the 'no_custom' attribute will only change custom battles and not campaigns.

As already stated: if you are going to change any file always take a copy of the original file first.
