Of the two mentioned, Stainless Steel is clearly the best. I have played them both, and the awesome thing about Eras Total Conquest is that it covers the entire world, and that you can choose between different campaigns and starting dates. But Stainless Steel improves Medieval II a great deal, with, among else, better battles

But if you are not locked in your choice between those two, I would like to recommend two other mods, which are my favorites. Firstly, Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod; it adds all the factions, units, heroes and many of the regions from the Kingdoms campaigns, and adds even more opportunites to your game. KGCM is basically a large version of the original game. The other one is Broken Crescent, a total conversion of M2TW which focuses on the Middle East. The pros about BC are awesome videos, events and units. This one gives a more historical and correct feeling about it

Yep, both are really great mods, though KGCM has some features that some people don't like. I personally love them, but you might not.

Garrison script: Some cities under AI control will spawn armies when sieged.

Revamped recruitment: As you upgrade barracks, the types of troops you can recruit changes, to reflect the evolution of troops. By the end of the development stage, you'll be recruiting mainly pike and shot troops. This was done so the computer would actually use those troops, instead of spamming older units.

Better pike units: Pike unist have had thier swords removed, now even militia pikes can hold thier own against DFK's

Please rep me for my posts, not for the fact that i have a Pony as an Avatar.

If that is a question, then the answer is no. KGCM does not include new Arabian units except those featured in the Crusades campaign.

That depends on what you'd like. If you enjoyed the original Grand Campaign and/or Kingdoms, you should really try Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod. There you will get the chance to play as 8 new factions (Ireland, Wales, Norway, Lithuania, Teutonic Order, Kingdom of Jerusalem and Principality of Antioch. In addition, there are a lot more regions to conquer, and all the units from the Kingdoms expansion have been added. And even more, heroes like Richard the Lionheart, Frederick Barbarossa, Baldwin IV, Saladin and Nur ad-Din are included as family members of their respective factions

If you did not enjoy the original Grand Campaign, or you want to try something new, you should install Broken Crescent. It adds numerous new factions from Egypt to India, and tons of new regions and units. This one is quite distant from the original game, but it is a really fun experience

I actually had thoughts trying aout KGCM, so it is basically the normal GC with everything from all kingdom campaigns? It is also with most of the regions added (Britain will be a crowded place or does Wales only start of with Caernarvon?) Can you as the Byzantines create greek fire and allemannoi?

Britain is quite crowded I guess. If I remember right Wales start off with two cities.
