    Default New Laptop Purchased

    Hi there,
Purchased this laptop a few days ago and wondering if it would be any good for playing, Empire/Shogun/Napoleon and other PC games
Intel Core i5-2410M processor (2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz)

1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M Graphics Card

    This is my desktop :
    AMD Athlon II 245 @ 3.00Ghz

    4GB DDR2 RAM

    ATI 5750 1GB

Which of the two will run Total war games most effectively?
    Cheers in advance for replies

    It will play all three.

How well depends on Nvidia drivers for the 550M.

Since the res of that laptop is probably 1366*768, its going to play on high

What do you mean running of the integrated graphics? It's a dedicated card.

Yeah, like I said IF the drivers for it to work. There have been a lot of threads in all three Tech forums about it. Check them out for yourself. Many are running on the integrated because the drivers for the 500 mobile series are or at least have been bad.

yep thats the fail that is optimus, and indeed you need to force the drivers on the dedicated, otherwise it will play on the integrated gpu.

since its 1600*900 its going to go for a mid high

Hmmm, with regards to Nvidia drivers should I download the ones from Dell or the one directly from the Nvidia site, as the DELL ones seem to be more recent..

thats really strange since aw owners are complaining that the drivers (280) are not available from dell, only the 268 (which is currently the only one that supports the 580m[a downclocked gtx 560 ti])

but it doesnt matter, you will have always to upgrade that driver, since optimus is always patched up with each driver (or at least we like to think that way)

you have the sager NP5160 I recon, is that it?

Ah that also makes sense, although I would never buy that model, unless it was dirt cheap
