    Default Keeping Senate Missions/Offices etc.

For our mod Historical Rome Total War, we have kept the Senate faction for one purpose.. that purpose is to give the Julii (Roman Republic) missions, have elections for offices etc. also the senate tab for political standing etc.

    Problem:
we have made the scipii into illyrians and the brutii into nabataean kingdom.. however they still get senate missions even with out "senate superfaction" present

    question:
how do we keep the senate for the julii but discard it for the other roman factions??

we need this to go forward with our mod thanks!!

Move the senate faction to be higher than the scipii and brutii but below the julii in descr_sm_factions.txt as I've heard that works.

nope.. still got a senate mission for Scipii.. i had swapped the brutii and senate in the descr_sm_factions.txt order as follows: julii, senate, scipii, brutii

You have to change internal faction names. Would be a lot of work, but it would do the trick.

Does not change anything I've changed internal names and still got missions for the faction. It might be hardcoded so that the first three non-senate factions get missions.

    For the Senate offices:

    PHP Code:
    ;Title
;Quantity                                    How many hold this office at any one time
    ;Duration                                    Duration of tenure (turns)
    ;
Settings                                    Number of times office can be held 0 implies unlimited
;Restrictions                                What restricts office being taken
;    not_consecutively                        Can not be re-elected while in office
;    quaestor_tenure                            Must have held office as quaestor
    ;    aedile_tenure                            ;                           aedile
    ;    praetor_tenure                            ;                           praetor
    ;    consul_tenure                            ;                           tenure
    ;End_restrictions
;Senate_benefits                            The crony-perks of the office
;    no_censor_suicide                        Censor investigation will not result in your suicide
;    censor_immunity                            You will avoid investigation by the censor
    ;End_senate_benefits
    ;End

    Begin_Offices

    Quaestor
    Rank                            10
    Quantity                        1
    Duration                        4
    Sittings                        2
    Restrictions
    End_restrictions
    Senate_benefits
    End_senate_benefits
    End
You could try to add another restriction for the offices, like IsFaction. I dont know if it works, but it is worth a try. However, there would be still a message from the Senate that none of your familie Members are worthy enough of a office.
For your changed factions: Maybe you could try to outlaw them? That would stop Senate Missions and offices, but you could get other bugs. (Like them appearing in the Senate Tab as former Romans.) Maybe you could change these Texts also?

To convert a roman faction to a non-Roman Faction, but still having the Senate, is something no Mod I know of got done. Most Mods are just removing the Senate, if they want to have a unified Rome. The SPQR Mod is the only Mod with the Roman Republic playable as Single Roman faction, but still having the Senate-faction. But then, in this Mod the Brutii are destroyed because they have no starting settlements, and the Scipii are called Roman Rebels, so its not what you want to do.

I will give this further thoughts.

RS1.6 did this, two of the three roman factions are greek factions, while the third is a unified rome and in the senate campaign the senate faction exists controlling only rome.

Does RS1.6 have a Starter like RS2? Then they would have the same problem as ahowl11, namely 2 former Factions being exactly that: former Romans and not greeks/whatever faction else. With the starter they load different files for each faction. This comes in quite handy for effective balancing, and with faction-swapping the player would never expirience the problems, like greeks having the Senate-Button.

Since i never played RS1.6, and always played only the faction I´ve selected in the starter, this is just assumption. However, if it is not that what I think, there must be an efficient way to "ex-Romanise" former Roman factions, without removing the Senate. And I´m sure that someone would have posted it on this forum, if it would exist. But then, this is just what I think.

In RS2 it was never an issue since the senate had been totally removed and replaced with another faction. RS1.6 the two other roman factions were greek factions and in every way that mattered behaved as greek factions would, with greek names/traits/buildings/portraits/etc, the only problem lay in using the senate campaign in which case they'd get senate missions and of course the senate button.
