Default Don't Go To Paris - Foriegn Office Warning.

The British Foriegn Office has issued a warning to tourists thinking of travelling to Paris to avoid some of France's most popular tourist spots, due to continuing violent protests against new employment laws.

It also warned that travel plans may be disrupted by a day of mass strikes due to take place next Tuesday.

It seems inconcievable that the FO has had to issue warnings for one of the most civilised and elegant cities in the world normally reserved for war torn African regions or the Middle East.

Maybe Britain should send in that incompetent peace activist Norman Kember recentley released from captivity in Iraq and see if he can do a better job there without getting himself abducted.

That's a good one. You normally hear of the Foreign office saying that British Nationals should not go to N. Korea, Iraq etc. Now they say that we should not go to Paris....

Be careful Brits, a New Napoleon may rise in France, and then you'll have to beat France in yet another war... (Riots in Paris led to two Napeleons already)

This is just a bit of a joke...

On Topic: Now, if the US State Department would issue this, they would be accussed of French Bashing.

Wouldn't the US state department insure that everyone understands that this is their intention?

You'd think Britain and USA would be more than happy to see a new Napoleon, it would be a great excuse to destroy France

    France:-
Demonstrations against the French Government's new employment law, some of which have become violent with missiles being thrown and cars and property being set alight and destroyed, continue to take place in some parts of central Paris, some of the city's suburbs and in other cities throughout France. Employee and student unions have called for a further day of mass demonstrations and strikes throughout France on Tuesday 28 March 2006 which may disrupt some essential services, including transport links. You are advised to check the latest position with your operator and to avoid any areas where demonstrations are planned or taking place.

    "war torn africa" - Somalia
We advise against all travel to Somalia because of the dangerous level of criminal activity and internal insecurity. Westerners and those working for western organisations have been targeted in recent shootings. A British BBC producer was shot fatally in Mogadishu on 9 February 2005.
Piracy is a major problem along the Somali coastline (see Sea Safety section below for further details). On 5 November 2005, while 70 nautical miles from the Somali Coast, pirates fired rocket propelled grenades against a cruise ship but were successfully repelled by the crew.
There is a high threat from terrorism in Somalia.
Those British nationals deciding to remain in or visit Somalia despite our advice to the contrary, should take strong security precautions.

Practically the same word for word. I can see how you could mix the two up if you 'read' the Sun. Source F.O.

    Edit

    Italy?
Demonstrations are planned in various parts of Italy in the lead up to Parliamentary elections on 9-10 April 2006 and municipal elections in May 2006. There is potential for other unplanned demonstrations to take place at the same time, which could become violent. You should take sensible precautions if you find yourself in areas where demonstrations or crowds have gathered.
There is currently a risk of unannounced wildcat strikes by municipal transport workers in cities across Italy. See Local Travel below for dates of pre-planned strikes

The Sun missed the stay away from Italy message?

    LOL!!!

This is sort of suprising I must say, and a little unsettling, seeing as I will be there in about a month's time.
