    Default Gates not closing!

Sometimes in a seige battle when I am defending, I like to rush out any light cav to harrass the enemy as they draw up their seige equipment.

However, on the last couple of times I have done this, my city gates open to allow the cav out, but then won't shut again, leaving the enemy able to waltz straight in!

How do I get the gates to close again?

Your troops defending the gate are too close to the gate actually. Simply position them a bit farther the gates.

My question is... who keeps those damn gates open?
Is it the troops too close to them? Well that ain't no advantage ...
Or is it those damn Mohammed tooth fairies?

    This.

In some city and fortress/citadel layouts you need to move the troops quite a far distance from the gate for it to happen. I have this happen a lot when falling back to the second or third wall of a fortress or citadel as I bleed the enemy. Very frustrating when you are in a hurry.

Gates only close if your enemy is far away, if it is quite near, the gates won't close. Just rush out as soon as battle starts and gets back through another gate (which is far from enemies) if needed.

You could also sally your cavalry through a side gate. Their fast enough and have enough stamina to get the same effect, without having your gate doors open...
