Default "unspecified error. The game will now exit"

I have downloaded Call of Warhammer 1.4.4 from both the torrent by Red Dwarf and from this link.
    http://empiretw.ru/board/index.php?s...2&#entry527802

I have deleted the map.rwm files. I have deleted the folder BETTER_WATER and the files descr_water, descr_water_effects, and descr_water_interaction_effects. I have deleted the folder Call_of_Warhammer\data\world\maps\base. I have deleted the folders data/siege_engines/textures/faction_variations, data/siege_engines/textures/winter, and data/siege_engines/textures/variations. I have added the descr_missions.txt file to the data folder.

I have tried the 1.05 patch from this location.
    http://www.gamershell.com/download_24914.shtml

The 1.05 patch that some of the forum members have pointed to that is at the SEGA website are unreachable since the SEGA website is down and has been for a while.
    http://help.sega.com/index.php?_m=do...loaditemid=215

I have run the CoW installation files as "Administrator".

I keep on getting a CTD that gives me an "unspecified error. The game will now exit", around turn five or six for any of the races or at random after a turn.
I don't know where the log files for the game are because there are no .log files in the "Medieval II Total War" folder or any of its subfolders.

I do not have Medievel II Total War Gold or the Steam edition. Just the plain old English vanilla and Kingdoms. I'm on my fifth uninstall/reinstall of vanilla/Kindoms/Call of Warhammer. I can get Third Age - Total War working.

Running Kingdoms.exe as admin causes problems with "unspecified error. The game will now exit" on campaign start up.
Can not run warhammer.bat as admin because of

    C:\Windows\system32>del /Q ".\data\text\*.bin"

    C:\Windows\system32>del /Q ".\data\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\*.rwm"

The system cannot find the path specified.

    C:\Windows\system32>cd "..\.."

    C:\>start kingdoms.exe @mods\Call_of_Warhammer\warhammer.cfg

Windows cannot find 'kingdoms.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Did you disable UAC before installing CoW?

Also, try running CoW without deleting the map.rwm files.

Yes, I have tried tor run CoW with the map.rwm files.

It seems to be at the the middle of the turn seven to eight cycle. I may be wrong on the turn count though, I would seem that it is when one of the AI is taking a turn that it encounters the error.

The UAC wouldn't have effected Red Dwarfs torrent since it is just an unpack and copy. The installer that I download on the other hand shouldn't be effected by the UAC if ran as admin. The UAC only is a prompt for user input when that something is making a request that has the potential to do harm or possibly unwanted changes to the system. It only causes a problem if a user doesn't have administrative privileges which, would normally bring up a prompt for you to enter an administrative name and password. Some programs and installers have trouble requesting these privileges and will fail which, can usually be prevented by using "Run as Administrator".

Has anyone encountered trouble with the UAC or is it a precautionary measure? The only problem I've encountered with it is on other games where, they would not request proper access through the UAC and just install part of the game and a few empty folders. That is normally fixed by running the installer as admin.

I have been reading on some of the post installation cleanup. It seems to be hit or miss for some people needing to delete various files. Some seem to need to delete different files then others while others need to delete all of the ones mentioned. Does anyone really know why this is? I have not deleted any sort of "strings" file from the text folder though, because of an apparent debate over if it is really necessary. Do all of the files need to be deleted or is this just shotgunning and hoping to get all of the ones known to cause some people trouble?

UAC tends to interfere with the installation process of CoW. Disabling UAC is a precautionary measure that should be taken to avoid errors such as the ones you are experiencing now.

The UAC wouldn't have effected Red Dwarfs torrent since it is just an unpack and copy.
I would recommend refraining from using RedDwarf's torrent. I have had issues with it in the past, and from my own personal experiences I advise your to abstain from using it.

The generally accepted post-installation is to delete the following files/folders:

    3) Delete folders
    data/siege_engines/textures/faction_variations
    data/siege_engines/textures/winter
    data/siege_engines/textures/variations

Deleting the above shouldn't complicate the problem; doing so should stabilize CoW as the post-installation was originally intended.

I am going to reinstall CoW but, before I do is there any problem with the either the Kingdoms patch from this thread from twcenter.net and the eleven part download of CoW from the this thread from empiretw.ru? If there isn't the only thing I can think of would be the possibility of the UAC or a corrupt download.

Both downloads are trusted, and completely compatible with one another.

I recommend disabling UAC, then a re-installation of CoW.

If the above solution doesn't fix your error, I would attempt the following:

    1.) Re-install Medieval II & Kingdoms
    2.) Update Kingdoms to v1.05
3.) Download and install CoW (Using the installation files provided in this thread)

Have you completed the post-installation cleanup after this recent re-installation of CoW? If not, do so to see if it resolves the issue.

I deleted the map.rwm files. Deleted the folder BETTER_WATER and files descr_water, descr_water_effects and, descr_water_interaction_effects. Deleted the Call_of_Warhammer\data\world\maps\base folder. Delete the folders data/siege_engines/textures/faction_variations, data/siege_engines/textures/winter and, data/siege_engines/textures/variations. I also copied over the file descr_missions.txt to the data folder.

The above are all correct, except for the deletion of the 'map.rwm' files. The deletion of the aforementioned files is unnecessary, and could complicate the issue.

There are two 'map.rwm' files. One is in the \data\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder and the other is in the \data\world\maps\base folder. I have made a back up of all of the files that were deleted post installation. Should I only replace the one residing in the imperial_campaign folder and not the base folder since the base folder itself needs to be deleted or should I replace both?

Replace only the map.rwm file in the '.../imperial_campaign' folder, do not replace the one in the '.../base' folder.

I replaced the map.rwm file in the imperial_campaign folder and CoW has an "unspecified error. The game will now exit" during the loading bar when starting a campaign. I removed the map.rwm file and I still get the "unspecified error. The game will now exit" during the loading bar when starting a campaign.
