    Default The burka

Ok I expect to be corrected on my use of the word but you guys know what I'm talking about. I'm just wondering if anyone here agrees with it and can make a convincing case for it. The only argument I've heard is that it promotes modesty, but I think that that problem would be better solved my women having more self respect, and you get that with a fair, equal society, not by oppression and control

No reasonable person agrees with it. There's a case to be made against banning it however.

You need to make sure which one you're talking about, burka, hijab or headscarf.

The US will gladly step up to become the world police when there is oil involved, yet they will resign the second there is a genocide in Africa, a slaughter in an allied nation, or a massacre committed by dictators, all who's nations have nothing to offer, but the gratitude of the people to the international community for reaching out.

Niqab is NOT used in Afghanistan. It is all covering Burka that is used there, and Niqab is used in Saudi Arabia for example!

The Burka is an embarrassment, but so is banning it.

Rational restrictions are quite different to banning.

if you want to hear about why women wear the veil, you should seek the answer from a person who wears it

    wupwup,

I cannot see for the life of me that on making a woman God had the intention of having her hid away. Oh, I can understand propriety and modesty but to cover any female up in the way some are that I cannot understand. Could it be that in the lusts of their hearts the Muslim is well aware of his own fallen state and so in fear and control he feels security behind the robes?

YES, totally it. You nailed that one. "The Muslim" is one insecure man.

Lol me. You understand property and modesty? as in the woman is your property and must be modest because your faith says so?

That's basically religious extremism and the same thing that some radicals from the other side do, you just changed some words around but it still smells like dude.

You know the of it and the irony, that so much from the religious side has served to radicalize me too, truth be told my tolerance for organized religion in general and other extreme ideologies or uncivilized ones has almost reached zero.

I still don't advocate outright banning it because of other factors that will affect society, but I support a more aggressive stance against religion in general and other extreme right wing ideologies.

I think they should make some of the Imams wear burkas during the heat wave in the US.

It's practical in sandstorms when you sit on the load area of a pick-up better than a keffiyeh. If it rains however, it's not really practical and can cause you catch a cold.

In high humidity it is uncomfortable, but in low humidity all the flappiness helps to cool down the wearer.

    Ferrets54,

I think that on seeing Arabian men all decked out in white kind of answers that question. Never seen an Arabian woman in white though.
