    Default Rioting cities

How do you guys deal with rioting cities or cities that require a ridiculously large garrison to keep under control?

Personally, I try to let them settle themselves down for a couple of turns and I build arena's to keep happiness up. Eventually, if they just won't settle down I do one of two things:

    1. I raise taxes and remove the garrison to force them into rioting. Bring garrison back in, lower taxes and rebuild. Rinse and repeat until they settle down.

    2. I let them completely revolt, then smash the revolution down and raze the city...

    What do you guys do?

Don't build arenas unless you are desperate they make it a gladiator upriseing and they are harder to deal with

Let them revolt and then slaughter the populace to bring it back under control. Major pain in the ass though.
Never build too many farms in a city or the population increase rate will make this happen far too often.

Of course, some mods have this problem pretty much fixed by rebalancing how farms and other buildings impact population growth rates and whatnot, and those are what you should be playing anyways.

Let them revolt and then exterminate the populace but your economy will br down for a couple of turn till you take the city back.
Cities usually get a bad public order due to a lot of squalor which I prevent by building sewers as first building in my settlements.

If it really is uncontrollable, let them revolt, take back the city and massacre

I tend to build things which increase public order first for those big cities, like the temples and sewers. Also, slavery helps out a bit too.

What I find is that you should make sure you have a total of 16 icons in the 'Population Growth' Line in the Settlement Details scroll. This gives you 8% growth, which counters the 8% squalor at Huge city level. Thus, you don't have cities of 50,000 or so people who are begging to revolt.

Of course, this can mean slower growth, but it is much better in the long run.

Rome vanilla has huge problems with Squalor making your settlements revolt for no reason. That mod keeps the vanilla but just adds new bonus' to buildings
