    Default romano british bucelari (crossbow men)

    im using a mod where i can play as the romano british and i have realised that i cant recruit 1 unit, the bucelari (sp?) (the men with the short range crossbows). they on custom battles are blue so they are a british unit but why cant i create them?

    Go into your descr_buildings file in the Data folder and add them under the appropriate missile barracks (finding the correct name to here may take some time). Make sure you do this accurately though as it can easily cause a CTD if you dont.

    before you do that open up a custom battle if they are there they will be in game,
    it's likely that you just hav'nt built the correct building to recruite them,
    or the mod your playing left them out deliberatly,

    Question:
    What mod are you using that allows you to play as the Romano-British? I would like to use it. Thanks.

    im pretty sure i could get onagers in an old game but not the bucelari in an old game. so unless they can only be recruited when a pagan temple is built then there is something wrong. (ill check now if u need a pagan temple to create them)

    EDIT: i justed checked using the building browser and they are not there on any building. which is the correct archery range to put them under? how do u spell their names in descr_buildings file .... i want to get this right and not crash my game

    ok before you edit anything make a copy of the descar_buildings file so you can replace it if it goes wrong, as for where to put it, thats up to you but if you put it in the same building as the other factions you'll maintain balance in the game,as for spelling just look at the other factions in the file and you should be ok :wink:

    im sorry being a bit of a noob at these things i just wanna check which file it is. im in the BI data folder and there is a file there called descr_buildings and there is also a folder with the same name. so which file am i looking for?

    EDIT: i did a search and found a file called export_descr_buildings and that was the one i was looking for. it turns out that the romano british wasnt added to the recruitment of the bucelari. i added them to be able to recruit them where ever the WRE and WRR could get them

    this is what it looks like without the brits there

    recruit "bucellarii" 1 requires factions { empire_west_rebels, empire_west, }

    and i just added the words romano_british to the front (that was how it was spelt with the archers the brits get and they always came first (alaphebetical i think)). so now it looks like

    recruit "bucellarii" 1 requires factions { romano_british, empire_west_rebels, empire_west, }

    you may also have to add them in the expor_descar_units which should look like this

    type bucellarii
    dictionary bucellarii ; Bucellarii
    category infantry
    class missile
    voice_type Light_1
    soldier bucellarii, 40, 0, 1
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, can_swim
    formation 1.2, 1.2, 2.4, 2.4, 2, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 7, 2, crossbow, 85, 20, missile, archery, piercing, none, 25 ,1
    stat_pri_attr ap
    stat_sec 7, 2, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 25 ,1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 3, 6, 0, leather
    stat_sec_armour 0, 2, flesh
    stat_heat 2
    stat_ground 2, 0, 3, 0
    stat_mental 5, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 18
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 500, 218, 40, 60, 400
    ownership empire_west, romano_british, empire_west_rebels

    then check they are still in the export_model_battle just to be on the safe side,(thats where the skins and models are refered from,
    a good tip is when you open these files use ctrl f, a small box should appear type the name of the unit in there and you should be taken strait to it,

    As said before, they are already available in custom battles, so no need to modify anything there.

    Only thing needed to be done is to find existing bucellarii entry in buildings files and then add Romano Britons as one of the factions that can recruit them (together with WRE and WRE rebels).

    I'm using Borsook Enchamcement pack for RTW/BI and also playing as Romano British. Due to 'lack' of unit for RB , what else do you guys think is 'appropriate' to be use by RB ?

    I was thinking the Veterenirarii (??)) to represent roman soldiers or ex-legions who didn't return to rome and form up their own legions.

    Well, they could use Ballistae and Repeating Ballistae added, since they have them in custom battles, but not in campaign, same as with Bucellarii.

    As for Veteranii, don't they have British Legionaries, which are pretty much the same thing?

    If I were you, I would try to incorporate some type of militia cavalry unit as I think the base cav unit for RB is Sarmatians. A lower grade cav unit would give you something in the beginning of your campaign to supplement your infantry with.

    ???
    They can build Sarmatians from basic Stables.
    And Sarmatians are also fast cavalary.

    Why would they need any other?

    in the files there is a texture/unit card for liminatae(sp) only problem is the ui card is the same as the coastal levy's, so they only need to be added in the text files

    I know that the Sarmatian Cav can be recruited from a basic stable, but it is a very high end unit for so early on in the game. For balancing and more realistic gameplay, I personally would want a lower end "militia" style cavalry in the beginning. Sarmatian cav could be moved to a more advanced building. Just an idea

    Well Romano-Britons weren't supposed to appear in early game anyway...

    They apear whenever the Romans get kicked out of Britain. And in my game that happend the third turn. But it can vary from every campaign, sometime they will never show up.
