The pope is so stupid...

I had a perfect relation to the papal states (it was actually "perfect") and I had all crosses (except for maybe one - shortly said I was the papal states' pet.

I thought of asking for a crusade against a rebel settlement since I had very good reltions with Egypt and the Turks. I never got that far since the pope called out a crusade against Jerusalem, held by Egypt. I see this as my chance to expand, and I want to be even better off with the pope, so I join, just like as good as EVERY SINGLE catholic fraction (except for Scotland, HRE and Milan) has already done.

So now the "fun" begins: I wasn't the only allies of Egypt - they had another allied nation - The Papal States! Yes you read that right!

So what do you think happens when I join the crusade? I get my alliance broken with the Papal States, since I went to war with their ally. I got a reputation penalty for breaking the alliance (but it's still "reliable" though) and since I kinda pissed of the pope by answering his call for crusade, I lost HALF of my goddamn crosses!

Right before the cry for a crusade all fractions had at least 6-7 crosses, except for the excommunicated HRE and Milan, after everybody joined the crusade, there's no fraction with more than five crosses...

I mean seriously, what kind of dumbass pope call out a crusade on his ally, and then choose to stick with him!?

The pope is very schizophrenic (spel.?) or he has secretly converted to islam

I voted for the pope (belonging to my allies of course) and through me he got the most votes. But he did not win! Another guy was selected with like two votes less than "my" pope!! You see, in many cases it doesn´t matter how many votes he gets, if another candidate gets the votes from more countries.
If one cardinal gets 8 votes from 2 countries,
and another gets 5 votes from 3 countries,
the one with only 5 votes win.
Or something like that...

I read the title of this thread and I just thought to myself, 'Well duh.' After reading the post, though, I really agree! This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of the Pope doing. Popes that stupid are rare, the popes are stupid. All the popes are stupid to some point, but those really stupid ones like yours are rare

There was this one Pope on the first Medieval that excommunicated EVERY FACTION. I was like, dude... if everyone is excommunicated, nobody is, because they're all excommunicated and can just make their own pope...

jbelaguas: Don't worry, I got two crusader armies, now besiegeing Jerusalem and Acre and those transport fleets blocking their ports. The problem now is that the Mongols just showed up, got no idea if they're in the Mideast or Russia. But I won't take Rome, did that last grand campaign, It really killed my reputation, diplomatic ability and Pope stance of course.

actually, in my recent spanish campaign the pope allied with the Egypt as well, except he didn't called a crusade against them, probably due to them being almost dead by the invasion mongols.
