    Default Recruitable Generals

    Hi Again, Chris Here...

    Been thinking about Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae 3.1 and in particular one of BI's new features which should have been in R:TW and that is the possibility of recruiting new Generals from the field. Characters and family members are a key part to success in R:TW but frequently during play a key member of the faction who has collected a series of useful combat traits and is the middle of nowhere on the map, packs it in and what your left with is a useless captain and no chance of recruiting anymore mercenaries before you land an important siege on your enemies. With the prospect of recruiting Generals this changes, you could dispatch your family member out to an important city in need of defending recruit a general and on the next turn send your family member back to your capital or somewhere else and do the same. I've been thinking about whether or not these new recruitable Generals need to be trained from a certain building like in BI?

    P.S. Wouldn't it be great to be able to recruit generals or other types of new characters from the field on your travels across the campaign map! :wink: :wink:

    The way it wokrs is that you make the generals bodyguard unit recruitable from a building, in my mod i made it from the 3rd level of government building up. That is all you need to do. you wil be able to recruit general bodyguard units, and once they have been finished you will have a general!

    I'm wondering...is it possible to just mod the game so the General's bodyguards are recruitable, in the expor_descr_buildings.txt, or would I need to mod it any other ways too? Thanks for any help you can offer.

    If you have 1.3 or 1.5 thats all you need to do, just make generals bodyguards recruitable and you will get generals.

    how expensive are these recruitable generals? like more expensive than cataphracts?

    In my mod i made them the most expensive units ingame, so that whilst you can recruit generals, they cost a lot of cash so it balances things out so there aren't just tons of generals running around.

    sweet, this should prove useful in the middle of a major campaign when i realize i only have a few generals. Also should eliminate those nasty not having any children problems. Im downloading ur mod now Lusted. Better not disappoint me, it sounds awesome.

    heres an example of what i did, i just made it for romans but you will get the picture and be able to duplicated for all the factions....
    in export_decr_building file
    recruit "roman generals guard cavalry early" 0 requires factions { roman, } and not marian_reforms
    recruit "roman generals guard cavalry" 0 requires factions { roman, } and marian_reforms
    i put that under the imperial palace and pro-consuls palace but you can put it wherever you think they should be recruitable from....you find the names of the unit in the export_descr_units file.
    the one that has early in it are the ones you get before the marian reforms and the ones with out early are the ones you get after...

    While trying to mod the file myself...I've had CTD problems when loading up the game...BEFORE the intro movies. It never reaches the into movies. I'm betting I typed the reference to one or more of the bodyguards incorrectly?

    you have to becareful that the format is exact. like there has to be two spaces between the "}" and the "and marian reforms" and no space after reforms... just check the already existing text in the file to see the format.

    theres not space after the brackets in the ones you added... highlight everything and look at the end of the ones you added and then look at the ones that were already there and youll see the difference.
    also i would prefer to have it so that the early cavalry is only produced before the marian reforms because thats how the game has it... you wont see any early (unarmoured) generals guard after the reforms.

    Okay I think I've got the hang of adding generals, captains, characters to the campaign but I have a problem as regards where they actually end up on the campaign map. For example Captain Otho ended up in the middle of the ocean to my surprise when I began a campaign with the SPQR and now I discover the poor guy cannot be moved, perhaps I am not adding enough into the desrc_strat txt document or something, I don't know, any thoughts?
