    Default Question(s)

    Hi,
    I read the threads stickied but didn't come across this. Anyways, in export_descr_unit, the units have type and dictionary for each unit. Now, how would you change those fields? Say I have a unit called "roman_archer", I want to say change it to "archers" or something. What files would I have to change?

    I know I have to change "roman_archer" to "archers" in descr_model_battle. But where do you change the dictionary values? Of course, I gotta change the export_buildings file since the value "roman_archer" would be changed. Thanks.

    And this thread probably would serve for any other questions about modding. Kinda got hooked into it after editing some animations. Thanks again.

    are you asking how to change the name of the unit?

    because that is in export_desc_unit

    In this tutorial,

    http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpo...80&postcount=8

    I want to change the name in the curly brackets {}. It's just so I know what unit is what instead of having say "roman_archers" representing "velites" or something.

    if you change the curly brackets you will get a CTD.

    Oh, I see. But how do some other mods do it then? Example would be LoTR mod, they just changed all the unit names in the curly brackets. Is there like a database somwhere that could be edited?

    {unit_faction} Unit Name

    {unit_faction_descr}
    Unit Description

    {unit_faction_descr_shor}
    Short Unit Description

    Just change the "Unit Name" to whatever you would like to be the on-screen name of the unit.

    Sorry, I'm just not explaining myself properly. I want to change {unit_faction} to something else. I can change "Unit Name". I'm just wondering if it's possible to do so since it would make the names more meaninful to me instead of having "roman_archers" representing "stickmen" or something.

    No you cannot change the stuff in the brackets to make something more "meaningful" if you do you will get a CTD.

    If you want the name changed changed it outside the brackets following Proximus' example.

    But you can't change the nature of the unit simply by editing the information in the brackets. You can add traits (like giving Triarii phalanx capability) or new skins to help make the unit more in tune with what you want.

    Yes you can, but you would need to edit all the files the dictionary name for a unit is used.

    Mudd, i think he has changed what they do and wants to edit the dictionary name as well, he can do that as long as he changes it in every file the name is used.

    I just have no idea what he is trying to do.

    I think he wants to edit the unit abilities by changing the information in the name bracket. But obviously I don't know.

    just my 2 cents

    Ok, thanks. I know export_descr_unit, export_descr_unit_enums, descr_model_battle, the 2 in the UI folder, the sound files...is there any more after that?

    And I know how to change the unit name, but that's just for display in game. I can change the descriptions & what not. Except that in the end, the unit isn't what it is in the first place and the name is just meaningless. And I know what you mean that I can't simply just change the nature of the unit.
