Just another thought on the campaign; after conquering a certain faction, the faction you control gain's/changes that kind of troop, troop quality or faction ability either temporarily or permanently. Say if the Romans conquered the Etruscans they gain the use of Hastati, Principes & Triarii, etc. but the Triarii fight in the fashion of a Hoplite unit until the Romans either conquer the Samnites or the Italian Gaul's from which they learn the importance of flexibility before and during their army's deployment, to change the Hoplon/Clipeus shield to an early form of Scutum shield, to change the length of the spear from a 10ft. Greek style Dory to a 6.5ft. Hasta and to change the style in which the Triarii fought in battle by changing from a Greek/Macedonian phalanx formation to a standard formation due to the terrain of the Italian Peninsular which is rough and hilly. I may not have the exact fact's here but do you see where I'm going with this?
