Well, you need the culture of a settlement to be a certain % of your faction's culture to be able to recruit units there, and the colony gives large bonuses to your cultural conversion.
For example, if you're playing as a Norse faction and you capture a settlement with 100% Celtic culture, and want to be able to recruit a Vikingr unit (which needs 70% Viking culture), you need to convert the captured settlements culture to 70% Viking before you can do that. In this case the colony building tree is vital.
But if you capture a settlement with the same culture (for example capturing a 100% Saxon settlement whilst playing as Wessex), the Colony tree isn't as important because you don't immediately need to convert anyone. At least, that's my understanding of it. Apologies if I'm mistaken.
My question is, can I build the building, let it give me 70% viking culture and then destroy it so I can build whatever troops I want?
but lateron the colony will affect the units-tree, won't it?
that would be awesome if you have kind of "governement-AORs".
