looks like it will be a winner, some early reviews saying its more a ww2 movie that happens to have a superhero in it then a superhero movie set in ww2 (if that makes any sense heh). Got high hopes for Cap but really wonder how much his name will hurt ticket sales in some uh backwards thinking countries.

They can't exactly rename him...I mean his uniform kind of gives him away...

I guess the company gave every country the option to take out "Captain America" from the title to just make it "The First Avenger". Russia, South Korea, and Ukraine chose to do so, but I don't know how you really get around the fact that he's blatantly American anyways so...kind of a stupid pointless move lol.

I don't really think it will since he's fighting in WWII. I think the only way it would hurt is if they did some modern crap and he was fighting Iran or the war on terror or something. For instance the start of Transformers 3 had the Autobots helping to destroy an unauthorized nuclear site in a nondescript Islamic country. There were all these Muslims in the audience when the scene went down and I was like:

Captain America is gonna be awesome. I hope the scriptwriter was careful though and made Captain America who he should be: someone with his heart in the right place, who cares about his nation from an ideological standpoint, and not some propaganda piece who goes AMERICA HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I've been trying to convinve my mates that Cap represents roughly the American Ideal, not the USA. And that he has in fact fought the US government.
Also I've threatened to beat them up if they don't come and watch it with me.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

Yeah that imo is the key and really its the heart of the character, all one has to do is read the civil war storyline to see. Cap is and always will be what america should aspire to be.

I'm sort of conflicted with this. On one hand I've been unimpressed with basically all of the superhero movies but because this is set during WWII I think it could feel like a much more legitimate movie instead of "just another superhero movie."
Well thats what some of the initial reviews are saying that it isnt JUST another superhero movie, its a ww2 movie first that just happens to have a superhero in it. Plus remember Cap isnt magical like Thor or even hi tech like Batman and Iron Man. He is faster and stronger then people but its on the level of a supreme natural (thru artifical means of course) athlete.

Great, yet another movie about beating WW2 German soldiers, most of them probably conscripted against their will only to be sacraficed for the sake of American dick waving.

    No thanks.

They kind of had no choice, there is no way they would skip the origin story, and Germans are very important to Captain America's origin story.

You will be happy to know there was literally not a single regular German soldier in the entire film.

Overall, for as much as I wanted to just chant "USA USA USA" at the end of the film, it just wasn't that good... It was too rushed, should have been made into two movies, I won't ruin anything but you will understand what I mean when you see the movie. Completely agree with Lt. Bradford, was too much of a set up for Avengers, not enough of a movie of its own.

Guess how many German conscripts died in the story.

If you guessed none, you'd be right.

Cap'n would actually be rather pissed at them for that one, maybe take it as about the biggest insult to the soldiers ever. Probably clean up the memorial himself to boot. But I guess accounting for the actual characterization is beside the point?

Most of this was filmed here in the UK apparently (Principally Liverpool, Manchester and London). The New York scenes were filmed here in Liverpool.

I might go and see it. Haven't decided yet.

Apparently there is some growing controversy over Rotten Tomatoes right now. Apparently they are calling reviews like "rotten" for Cap when on other movies they were fresh. Conspiracy theorists are saying it is due to Warner Brothers owning.

Otherwise, incoming reviews have been fairly good so far.
