    Default Launcher Problem with Steam

    Hey,

    OS: Vista
Rome Gold & Alexander - Steam
RSII is patched and I downloaded the newer launcher

First off I'd like to tell you that this isn't really a major issue for me, I can play the mod by configuring the properties in Steam and have been playing it as such since I first downloaded the mod when it was first released, no problems as such (excepting the occasional frustrating CTD after battles, but that's common). Because of the fact that the mod works using the method above I assume that everything is installed correctly, launcher included in that assumption.

So basically the problem is that when I use the launcher (Campaign is selected, Alex is selected, Steam is switched to Yes) I click Play, I get the campaign & engine selection message, click OK and... nothing happens, launcher just sits there gawking at me. I also note that I can't close the launcher either when this happens and can only close it using the task manager.

I've tried every trick up my sleeve to try and get the launcher to work, using admin access, manually configuring the properties and .ini files, changing Steam: Yes to Steam: No, using the other Rome engines, etc. I've reinstalled the mod and game several times to try and fix up the launcher but to no avail. It's become a sort of an extremely weird obsession, every time I play the mod there's an ever consistent thought in my head that I'm playing it without using the launcher custom built for it... sigh.

Anyways, I've looked through other threads and others who have the same or a similar problem seem satiated with playing it through configuring the properties without the launcher issue being resolved. It's no big deal really, but if someone has suffered as I have and managed to cure their technical malady, It'd be nice to hear how you did it.

    Thanks in advance

Yeah I already downloaded the new launcher as I stated, no difference at all. I'm not sure but I think the problem may just be individual to my PC, I've tried multiple different methods that others have used and it seems to work okay for them. Oh well.

I fixed this for someone a while back, it had something to do with Steam not being a default install, e.g different directory path, different install path.
That requires recoding the launcher to fix, because the launcher makes an assumption.
If everything is default then i dont know im afraid

I have this same issue, but figured out as they did above, that i can just launch the game via Steam like normal after doing the -mod:play_blabla set up. Like they said the launcher just becomes none responsive and sits there singing at you. Have to Ctrl+alt+Delete to close it even.

Xenos, or anyone with the problem, whats your steam install path? And is RS2 in the steam folder?
Or did you install to C:/RS2 or similar?
